City West was once a prosperous, lively city, full of freedom, full of plans for the future. Its inhabitants were content, in good jobs, in good housing, and in good health. It was a pleasant place to live and work.

However, soon, a bloody civil war broke out. The country was divided, the people of the nation split in their beliefs. The nation’s government fell apart, with different members’ views contrasting immensely. City West was partially destroyed, and many of its inhabitants killed in battle.

The leader of the Independence Army, General Ivor Terakovski, had extreme views. When he won the war, a year and a half after it began, he set about organising a governmental system based around each city’s liberty. However, he had more selfish reasons for this. By introducing effective ‘ownership’ of cities, whereby the owner could do whatever he or she wanted with their land, Terakovski was able to live out his twisted fantasies: to trap his people in a city-sized cage, to experiment on them, and to watch them suffer.

Now, a decade into Terakovski's rule, City West has hit a low. While mild offences have been cut in half, major organised crime has increased twofold. Innocent citizens are either afraid to leave their own homes, or shot for doing so under Terakovski's malevolant laws. Eventually, a group of oppressed people in City West could take it no more. A small resistance group has been formed. Its ambition is to rid City West of the horrendous corruption Terakovski’s ownership had caused, by any means possible.

You are the latest addition to this resistance group. And so the adventure begins...

City West Adventures is a single-player total-conversion mod for Half-Life 2. Its ambitious storytelling, credible voice acting, unique, artistic stilisation, and phenominal gameplay - all powered by the stunning Source Engine - will all help create a distinctive and memorable gameplay experience over the three episodic releases of the modification.

The Unveiling...

News 5 comments

In late 2002, a planned Half-Life total-conversion named City West Adventures was put on permanent hold due to a lack of interest from both its target audience and potential team members. It was to be a single-player action-adventure, with a unique 'comic-esque' stylisation and innovative design concepts; fully-voiced by a team of talented actors; and released in three episodes. Two years later, based on a new engine and with many design alterations, City West Adventures is back.

The mod design has been in secret progress for 18 months, crafted meticulously by a five-strong team of game designers and story writers. Now, with the release of the Half-Life 2 SDK, CWA has finally left its pre-production stage.

With the first batch of screenshots released (see above) and already speedy progress being made, City West Adventures' creators hope that, this time round, the mod will be more of a success.

This mod, like 95% of the other ambitious mods listed on this website, is dead. R.I.P.

MenZaDK: Sorry, no can do. Our team of artists spent a good while deciding on the graphical style, and that's the one we settled with. Hope the rest of the game is more to your taste :).

(Unless you were joking, in which case: heh.)

Cheers for the comments everyone.

Nah, it's good to see mods that deviate from the norm when it comes to gameart. Keep up the good work.
