Excellent map, however it seems empty/bland at places. For example the water seems monotonic with not enough variations (light posts could help).

Yah, I came to the conclusion that I couldn't get the settings exactly as I'd like them for the water lightposts, so I'll likely revisit the water at a later date.
As for bland regions, you're right. But at the same time, areas which I expect the player to build on - directly around their base - have been deliberately left bland because otherwise the terrain looks a bit chaotic for a military installation.
But even then, yes, there are some regions of simplicity. Most of these were picked to offset the complexity of their surroundings: The lead up to the city and then the area beyond it and the desolate high plateaus are an attempt to make it appear that their surroundings are denser and more infested than they really are. Hopefully it worked to some extent, perhaps I must revisit that too.

Description

Tiberian Odyssey finally gets some more decent maps starting with "Phoenix Revisited", a six player map with increasingly large volumes of Tiberium.

Once a bustling agricultural settlement in one of the Earth's least poluted regions, the township of New Phoenix existed to serve the GDI outposts on the Transmexican Superhighway. However, seed pods of Tiberium and related flora which have recently begun appearing - transported by wind and quick flowing water - have thrown the delicate balance of the New Phoenix ecosystem into chaos and will very soon return the area to a state of wasteland outside of the firestorm defences of the township.
The map boasts a number of civilian structures which can be captured, some of which grant extra construction options.

A little more is revealed in the TO Christmas Update.
