Battlefield 1918 is a total conversion modification for Battlefield 1942. The mod takes Battlefield 1942 into a whole new scenario, the first world war. Next to historically correct equipments and vehicles, we try to recreate the atmosphere of these WW1 battlefields as close as we can, keeping in mind the game we're working with. To achieve this, we've drastically changed the gameplay from the original game like so that you must now rely on teamwork, artillery, trenches and slow vehicles....

Today the Battlefield 1918 development team is happy to announce that the open beta for V3.2 is now available to download and test. We also show off some of the new features in both screenshots and a new trailer!

Greetings everyone and welcome to the latest news update regarding Battlefield 1918. Myself and the rest of the team would first of all like to thank all of our fans for their patience in waiting for the release of the Open Beta for V3.2, and we are happy to say that the wait is finally over!

At the end of this article will be a link to the open beta version of the mod, so can start downloading while reading the rest of what we have to say here regarding some of the new features you'll encounter.

For a start this is a good time to bring up some of the new maps that players will get to experience, the first being the Morava Offensive. This map is set around the Bulgarian fall offensive of 1915 against Serbian defenders around the town of Pirot. Players will get to fight over the town itself, the surrounding area, and even the historical 14th century castle that made up key parts of the Serbian defenses.

Of course this is not the only new map we have to report, as many may know that the combined might of Germany, Bulgaria, and Austria-Hungary was simply too much for forces of Serbia and as such they retreated through the mountains of Albania. This is where our aptly named Albania map takes place which will uniquely start off the Serbians with one flag and the Bulgarians at their heels, but the ability to easily capture more if they move fast enough and defend their starting area long enough. We hope that this setup will make the map both memorable and fun for our fans!

Of course, the subject of snowy mountain passes does bring one to the topic of winter uniforms, and players will be pleased to learn that some nations are already receiving special winter uniforms on appropriate maps. Among the first nations to get these new variants will be Russia, Germany, and Austria-Hungary.

Naturally, bringing up the Eastern Front gives opportunities to discuss another long awaited and often requested feature for Battlefield 1918, as players will now find that they have access to playing as cavalry. In Battlefield 1918, players can mount horses that are equipped with carbines, pistols, melee weapons, or even unarmed variants that provide supplies to both the player and nearby allies.

I'm sure with all of this news you are all now quite excited to try out the new open beta, which is partly why we've included the link for the download down below. If you mean the new flag positions I believe they moved them so bot ships can get to the flags easier.

extract the bf1918-beta folder to the mods folder for Battlefield 1942. The beta should not be in the bf1918 folder itself.

I donā€™t think that works for some reason lol. You sure it doesnā€™t go in 1918 folder? Which folder are you referring to when you say mods folder for bf1942?

You will need Battlefield 1942 (which is free these days) and the 3.1 version of Battlefield 1918.

This is not just a "patch". This is 3.1. with additional content in its entirety. The previous version of the mod is needed only for the correct display of some things.

for maps:

nearly all maps need to the init.con that is in the menu folder this:

var v_name
game.customgamename -> v_name

if v_name == bf1918-beta
game.setMapId "bf1918-beta"

otherwise the maps are not recognized

for effects:

the explosion effects were better in 3.1 version

for structures:

some textures of some trenches now are missing

for equipment:

to the tanks now when firing the cannons there is too much movement to the camera of the first person view that looks somehow unrealistic (it was better before)

when inside the Renault FT now you see nothing except a scope as a submarine (it was better before)

for units:

to the machine gunner unit now there is too much movement to the camera of the first person view (the head of the player) that makes you dizzy (why to destroy it? it was better before)

also when running or walking now there is a down movement and an up movement to the camera of the first person view (the head of the player) that makes you dizzy again (why to destroy it? it was better before)

the very first battlefield 1942 had that effect and was removed afterwards

when testing my map named battle of Skra di Legen (you can see details here Bf1918.iphpbb3.com) to the beta test version now the texture of the entrenchment is lost, how this? (but it worked in 3.1 version)
