P80s were already flying by 1943, and were in limited service by 1945.

Had the war lasted another year their deployment is more than conceivable.

Maybe make a Highly expensive upgrade to the airfield to allow one B-29 Atomic bomb drop? Maybe a very high cost, like 30k coins, so that people don't just drop them like rain after building a few tactical airfields.

there is a mod in China that basically does that-- but it gave the Atomic bomb airfields to Communist China!

I'll look into it-- it shouldn't be too difficult to produce a similar effect for the USA. my feeling is that ALL of the special airforce techs would have to be researched first-- and THEN the atomic tech would be expensive. the price per sortie would also be very high-- something like $5000 each. even with all of those obstacles I could see it only getting used maybe three or four times in a single game under nomal conditions.

I'll do some testing and tinkering.

the P-80 doesn't feel too out of place when you realize this: the standard USA artillery tank in the original game didn't reach the European theater until the war was practically over!

If we do this, we need to give the others factions something similar. Unless that's your plan for the V2 bunker.

Maybe we can also give Japan suicide planes that can be deployed from airfields.

w/o getting into all of the gruesome details the current build-order plan for deploying atomic bombers is a start-up cost of $3000 to recruit the airfield and $5000 per sortie.

like the Gustav and V2 bunker-- these new ideas will probably only REALLY get used in specially prepared campaign missions or custom maps. the original idea for the V2 bunker was to have them used in new SP maps as something the RAF needed to destroy before they could complete the mission. Gustav would end up being used in the new Crimean map SP campaign.

I've already put some thought into Japanese kamikaze bombers-- and finding a solution to the kamikaze mechanics is quite difficult. my first thought, honestly, was to create an alternate death code so that Japanese aircraft would gain an additional AP attack when they die and crash into something. this way they wouldn't have to purchase any special techs and could get the same effect. it always seemed a bit odd to have an enemy aircraft get shot down and plow into an ammo depot at full speed like a blazing comet and only have it get mildly damaged!

with this new approach I could add a special secret agent decay enchantment and then I wouldn't have to worry about creating a new type of attack.

making aircraft crashing into stuff more lethal would add realism to the game, make engineers more necessary, and could be fun.

I've considered three or four methods for doing kamikaze and right now that feels like the best solution. the other methods involved special attack codes and bomb ideas-- and just wouldn't have worked out.

the kamikaze bomber is much harder to pull off in practice than it is to consider in theory. a more practical alternative would be suicide mini-subs... since these would essentially be water-based goliath units.

I guess looking at the Goliath and Banzai code didn't help much?

nope. the bombers would fly around in a figure-eight and then land.

"wait... I just spent $100 to see a plane do a figure-eight and land? not cool!"

haven't tried the suicide subs yet-- but airborne units don't seem to mix well with the banzai/goliath attack

Description

new Strategic airfield for the United States. it can field four B-29 super-bombers with twelve P-80 jet fighters. the jets have less powerful gun attacks than the Me-262 but make up for this by having more powerful rocket attacks. (35 points of blast damage with each rocket)

recon costs $50
bombing strike costs $200

a fully upgraded B-29 can unleash a devastating 1620 points of blast damage and 405 points of flame damange in a full three-cycle bombing run.
