Absence is a 3rd-Person Fantasy Adventure game set in a Victorian industrial town.
Using the Half-life 2 engine, the game centers around a young girl, Lily, who wakes to find that she has lost her memory. The player must guide
Lily around the city, meeting the various citizens of the city and solving puzzles to progress through the game.
The game is being developed by a group of students at the University of Salford, England as part of their final year of their BSc degree in Computer & Video Games and is due for completion in May 2006.
After considerable hours of toil, we've managed to get Absence ready for public release. Absence is a 3rd-person adventure game, taking influences from ye olde point'n'click adventures, and combining them with the technology of the half-life 2 engine.
This game demo is a final year project for the Computer & Video Games degree programme at the University of Salford, so there are a couple of things that have been carried out more for demonstration purposes than for the benefit of the game itself.
Please do have a look at our mod, and let us know what you think. We've tried to do something a bit different with it, and I hope you enjoy our work!
The first release version is 172MB, and available from moddb here.
Our lead artist Sarah has just completed a series of concept art for the characters in Absence. They're looking great, and we're very pleased...
Absence - Mod for Half-Life 2. Demonstration of a 3rd-person adventure game. Part of a student project at Salford University, UK.
Ought to have done a bit of research on the 19th century before attempting this.
the girl looks a bit like one of the lil sisters off bioshock
this mod existed before bioshock.
This was a good little puzzle game, always great to see some unique mods like this. The story elements was well made. The style felt a bit weird for me, probably because it felt very much like a little kids game, but I enjoyed it as long as it lasted. Good job!
I havent even played this yet, but i have read the reviews and also the reply from the author/team . from what i have read, most of you are far too quick to criticise. just remember that this is a mod built from scratch, not a multi million pound release available in the shops. If it is true that these guys had 6 months to complete, while also having to do other random uni work etc, then good on em! if only for gettin it up and running to an at-least playable state! i'll tell you if i think its as rough as a dogs back leg.!
damn, mishappened to click on minus instead of plus on this post.
i really agree with you
The purpose of this game wasn't to be Alice, which is based on the idea of a fairytale being corrupted by some nightmarish evil. This is hardly based off of a fairytale. It is itself a new story that carrys some of the grim aspects of a Utopia gone wrong.
there abunch of crack monkeys
WTF ARE YOU GUYS ON CRACK?
This sucked soooo much. Why couldnt the annoying freak girl with the clay head that went through a car engine jump? Why did the freaky thingy in the pottery place have a 2-D head? If you add knives and razor playing cards and ice wands and Jacks of Doom, this would be great, and it would be an already made game that was good called American Mcgees Alice. REMAKE THAT IN THE SOURCE ENGINE AND I WILL PERSONALLY KISS YOU ON THE LIPS.
