Some people will feel that way, but here's a demo. Here's an actual product. Give it a chance. You only learn if something is good or bad by either a)trying it out, in this case the demo, and seeing how it is or b) waiting to hear input from other players, people in the community, mappers, etc etc.

Yes I haven't pointed anything out. Ok Mr. Professional who feeds his family with the work he does. There's a lot of people in many fields that feed their families with the work they do and unfortunately some of them do a horrible job. Kinda like the lady who went to have a kid and came out limbless. So saying you're a professional means nothing. If anything it makes it seem like you have a god complex and everyone knows Shatner is the only god.
Being a professional and in the biz for so long, you should know there are many people out there with little computer knowledge. Now let's go through this example. Let's say you have a key logger. It records everything you type, every key stroke. Now no other program loads this or other nasties up. Not IE, not mozilla, not anything except one program. Steam. Now let's say this critical flaw is in there for over a year and people let them know at first, but they get ignored or told to do things they don't understand. Being an IT professional you should know that. Now people start to get ****** and angry because this crap keeps loading up and nothing will take care of it nor will anyone help. Now I don't know about you, but I've been working on computers for over 20 years. When there were problems with a program, especially a flaw like that, it got dealt with so that it wouldn't occur again. Unfortunately this was not the case and many people had personal info leaked to god knows where. If you think that's grand and great then you are a complete moron. Security flaws to the consumer is a huge problem and unacceptable standards by any company.
Also mislabeling minimum requirements is ripping people off of hard earned money. How is it good for a company to falsely put the wrong listing for what the game needs to run at bare minimum and even if you have more then what they list is needed it still runs poor. It's a waste of money. Plain and simple. It would be like going to buy a Ferrari and instead of going over 200, it craps out over 30 and stalls and the body is rusted, they just painted over it and the only way to get it kicking *** is to go see a custom guy, hence the mods.
I'm guessing you didn't notice I said it was a good platform for modders, but I'm guessing since you're an IT guy that's why you missed what the person said PEBCAK.
I don't mean to sound bad, but hl1 ran just fine with the bare minimum requirements, a lot of games used to. Now they don't. If you can't see what I'm saying in the most simplistic terms then there's no way that I can help you. As for spending so much time here. Yes in all the time this page has existed, I have made these few post here which classifies me as spending my time here. Your logical is very rational. It shows.
Yes I hate it so much I promote it for modders. I'm glad people know how to read and understand what someone says. I'm glad humans as a whole can use their mind. It's very wonderful.

It's great that in society we find it wrong to criticize something for it's flaws so that maybe we might get something big and grand and not get the shaft as a consumer as a whole, but it's alright to bash people for their view and insight to possibly help make something better if someone with enough intelligence can see that, unfortunately there's no one like that around. No I'm only disappointed with the low standards people have now and what they except. Can use gaming consoles as an example. Before you got 2 paddles, a game, heck maybe 2 or 3, all the chords you needed to plug it into multiple styles of tv's, some other goodies you may need sometimes. Now people rack out hundreds for a console with a single paddle and nothing else, They have to buy another paddle, a chord if they didn't get the proper one to run on their tv, a game which will probably have a bad story, glitch and have huge fps drops when something happens on screen, some have to buy fans for their xbox cause it over heats, even though that should be free cause they didn't design it properly. Let's not forget spending 30 bucks or so for a stand to stand it upright, cause they just couldn't give you that. Nope they just reel all the fish in. Then some spend 15 bucks a month for online play, when they just essential have a computer, and some of those games are on pc and have higher player count maps and ya don't have to pay more!
Same goes with games.... people just have lowered their standards and accept halfassery and say it's grand, because they have dreamed often and had their heart stolen and their soul destroyed..... woe is me.
And just to prove I'm not disappointed with everything. I luv my Canon 30D. Sure it ain't no Mark 3, but what can ya do.

Yes..... alien head huggers that turn humans into zombies. That situation is so believable. This is why I question the basic intelligence of people that give good to reviews to games that don't deserve it. HL2 is a good platform for modders. Which is why I recommended it. From the work that's been done by other groups, they have showed off many things with this engine. Crowning achievements no, but it's a step in the right direction engine wise. It's just I didn't enjoy the single player, nor the crashing problems I had with it, on a system that should of ran it properly, which no one seems to read and only give idiotic remarks. It's like people can't use two brain cells to even counter well.
As for emotions displayed by characters.... yeah sure. I bet you give Waterworld 4 out of 4 as well. There was only one person that was good, and well he's been good since Soap and beyond.
As for revolutionizing physics.... well no. I hope you have heard of Ageia. They have revolutionized physics. Nice try though.
Also if you think the Ai is good.... then well I can't help you. They Ai is as dumb as always. No game has good Ai yet. It may happen, but it's always the same generic crap. From this game to Ut 2k4, to Shadow Of Chernobyl going back to Doom.
I'm glad people know what 'flaming' is. Just like I'm glad people know what a good game is.
And why is it that one is allowed to shine the bells of a game, which some feel is actually lacking in many fields and did not properly list the requirements, nor did they deliver, except to those that have come to lower their standards for games because that is what the market has done to the consumer as a whole, but if someone wishes to voice their negative opinion, and yes on moddb where others voice their positive feedback, why get mad at them, especially when the 'counter' presented to them took no more then 5 braincells to produce and supply? The point of these pages is to allow others to voice how they feel about the game. The same thing people do to other games on here when they go in and say it sucks. Why have all of you not gone to every game to defend them? Where are the champions of the gaming industry?
The storyline is weak, they actually tried to add in all this extra crap into the game, to the point it got more idiotic then a French Canadian scifi movie, they completely got away from what made hl1 fun, and essential what you're saying is, for something that should of been a 'whole' game, it's now divided into sections to get you to pay more for it..... yeah that's fair penny wise to the consumer, but if the consumer feels they wish to support them and enjoy it. They have every right too, just as I have a right to complain about certain issues and say I do not recommend this game on it's own and that the minimum requirements listed, where not the proper ones displayed for me. This may save people time and money just in case they were to have the same issues if they were just at the minimum requirement level.
I'd only recommend hl2 for the mods that are on it and nothing else. There's a lot of groups out there that do great work for games and are usually the only reason the pick up a game nowadays, but even with mods. When a new game comes out some of them jump.
As for waiting for reviews and such. I waited, plenty of time and read many reviews, especially from people I know in the industry. It still goes to show the consumers as a whole have lowered their standards with their grade on the game and saying that it's good. Going against what I see and say. So if it doesn't make you happy, there is nothing I can do. Except say what I think on here, just as others have done the same and said the liked it.... that's the point of having these pages. Multiplayer was hella fun. I just wish they finished the Robotech mod for it

Yeah it was Mygot. They are about as lame as this game. I was not impressed at all. Bad story, less weapons and the ones they 'added' were lame, hated the new engine and after a patch a year ago the game runs for about 10 mins if I'm lucky then crashes to the desktop as does all hl2 mods. Biggest ripoff. I bought a game that lied about minimum requirements to run properly and then essential stopped working because of their patches, then let's throw in their steam updates... like the one were they bought all brand new computers after ripping people off. How that was an 'update' is beyond me, but hey it's valve. They killed won and helped ruin a lot of mods.
I will never purchase anything over steam or support them in any way and I only play one game on steam anymore and I play it very little. I wish I could get my money back for hl2, but hey consumers don't have rights if they get ripped off, but big companies do. What great rights we consumers have when we are ripped off and lied to.
Actually it's not enough said. You give no examples of why it rocks, because it doesn't. Which is why you gave zero examples.
As for the 'get a better computer' comment, wow the thought process you must of put into thinking that up, especially without knowing my computer setup.... it's so original. I was running it on a 1.7 ghz with a gig ram, 64 meg card, that's plenty.... oh and by the way. I did get a new computer. Dual Core Athlon x2 64 6000, 4 gigs ram, raid hd setup and only a 8600, but hey it only runs oblivion and quake wars:ET and everything else at full res with everything maxed.....thanks for the concern but hey what can ya do eh..... not much on a 800 mhz. ; )

Holy I had nothing but problems with this game. I would of been happy with a 5 minute trial.... geez time wasted downloading this when I could of been playing MB2, or UO, or DoD..... something free and good.... now everything you pay for is poo..... poo I say..... heck even old CS is good, but no... I remember when I first played this mod. I was instantly hooked. Jumping off the rock bridge on LZ into the chopper taking all the guys out. Running across long open fields having to dodge incoming fire from snipers, mg's, rifle man, gren launchers... just to blow myself up, over and over again.... sometimes even going 1000+ kills and 100 deaths a few times.
This is by far my fav mod/game of all time and for those that played this game I know you remember S-D ; )
God I miss this mod, I don't know why it died or how. I leave for a little while and my kingdom is gone and I waited and waited.... and no one ever played or hosted a server. I still play with bots, but it's not the same as jumping out of a window, running around a corner and having guys see you and run away into a group of their own guys so you could sap them and get 16 frags at one time.... I miss those days, I miss all those people. I know some are gone now, but like this mod and those memories. They shall always live on with those few people that actually played this game and knew exactly what this mod was. Pure genious.
If anyone ever wants to get a game up again sometime just xfire me under this nick. Special-Delivery is always game and shall be until I take my last breath upon this planet!
The mods up there for HL2 aren't bad. I've checked em out. I'm a huge fan of dystopia. Most of the mods don't have a huge impact, like wow that is crazy and so new and different. Gmod is fun, and has alot to it, but it doesn't blow me away. The only one I find to bring something to the table is Dystopia. It's one of those games that doesn't stand on the same platform as others. You can see inpirations from other places, but yet it's on it's own level and has set a standard that should be and shall be followed in time. Yes it's in the demo phase, but it's like playing the Wolfenstein demo for the first time, and loading up the 5 1/2 floppy's and going man.... this rocks, or getting doom on a pcgamer cd and thinking to yourself.... holy this is pure madness. There's so much potential.... well to me Dystopia gives me that feeling and it has that same potential. To those that haven't checked it out. You should, don't let this mod die like everyone did to ToD for halflife. Special-Delivery out!
