Today I miss the alpha graphics. I don't think pixelated textures and smooth shadows is a good combination for this game. I play the game with lower graphics on my PC (though it can handle the game with ease on maximum graphics) only to get closer to the old time, but no- it doesn't work as much as I want. I am not complaining about the gameplay- just the graphics.
Only the thing in the center of the map and the main part of the terrain are world brushes. Everything else is func_wall. I will check what happens if the func_wall brushes are func_detail, but I doubt that this will take care of the lag- while the player is inside the sky brush, where only the world brushes remain visible, the lag does not drop. I really have no idea where to check what makes the map harder to process.

I can see a lot of effort. My advise to you is to test the mod on old PCs in order to see how optimised the maps are. Change the ladder with a ladder model and use models for props. This will make the maps look better and you won't have to worry about brush errors.

Very nice indeed. But I think you should replace the rails with Black Mesa rails (like in the chapter after chapter "Power up"). This way you wont worry about the corners and it will make the player feel more like he is in BM. And don't make the hallways too long. This will make the map more unoptimized.
