You know... stuff about me goes here & what not. Things like favorite foods, what type of flower I have, number of animals for meat & dairy. Stuff.
I didn't want to read through the entire comment section, but I always thought a neat idea would be to let modders pay some $ to run an ad on your site. IE $5/month for a simple banner add that runs on the main page, for example.
that dude is UGLY.
good job. :)
Lot of game companies buy stock assets and many are for sale pretty cheap. *cough*STALKER HALFLIFE2 DOOM3 ACCUSATIONS*cough*
Not 100% sure, but last BNA told me was a DDOS attack took everything down.
Any ETA on a release? I'm eager to give it a shot. "low res" textures don't bother me. :)
Darn that security! :)
Ok, I posted that just to see if I had some kind of tag. :)
e-mail sent. Late, sorry about that. Didn't see your response.
Thanks. It loads up the materials then the log says "Initializing Skins", then nothing. Loading all the OGL stuff succeeded. No skins folder in base, could a bad material (or something) be causing the crash?
Every time I try to run the latest binary it crashes to windows, no specific error. I've got Win 8.1, AMD 7850 with the 14.4 driver, 6gb RAM & a Phenom 9600. I tried setting up a shortcut to make a log file but either it's not recognizing the Q2 command "+set logfile 1" or it's not making it that far.
Anything specific this needs to run?
Doom guy should be firing with his left hand. :)
Looks like a write protection issue to me. IE Win 7/8 won't let you write to the program folder by default and the game wants to take the dll out of the pk4 & place it in to the folder.
I don't know since I normally model in Blender, but from what I've done with Q2Modeler, it sets each vertex at each frame, so you should model everything before you animate it/add frames.
Or it's on purpose. :) That stock sound effect is amazing. :) Was in Aliens you know. :D
In the light inspector panel enable the center option, then you should be able to move it. You might need to unselect the light & reselect it first.
Since D3W's been gone for a while and the itch to chat among id tech modders is still around, I started up a forum for us all: Idtechforums.fuzzylogicinc.com
Hope to see more people there. :)
I can also setup a wiki if people want but I found that format frustrating to find D3 mod info on. The downloadable help file was much more useful to me.
Tutorials, listings & the like would be awesome. There's so much on there it was more valuable as a references vs a forum at times.
I can't get an e-mail either, so I disabled activation e-mails and activated you manually. No more e-mails until I can figure out why they aren't being sent.
I'm already working on it: Idtechforums.fuzzylogicinc.com
Awesome work, just with I had D3 BFG to see it in action.
Wow, bunch of negative commentary to a company who didn't shut down a service but is dealing with a 3rd party being shut down.
Just think of what will happen when Valve starts dropping support for games that use it's matchmaking service.
Gamespy had a great run. Sad it has to shut down (I don't even think the online server division is owned by IGN/Fox any more but sold off years ago).
To bad nobody commenting here had the $$ to buy the servers & keep them online, eh? Guess that makes you part of the problem then not part of the solution. :)
As far as I'm aware, the ads brought in almost nothing, the site was up for pretty much free.
If there is reason to not restore it, they would be the bickering on the site & now he has a family and didn't feel like keeping up moderated/running.
If there's interest I could setup a new forum on my host. Everyone would need to reregister but it seems mods D3W users don't want to use this site.
More like "Ban Hammer!" :)
Holly kitten poop... textures large enough? :D
Get it on Moddb.com as an add/etc. :)
You're welcome! Thanks for the content! :D
Aliens TC is perhaps the best mod I've ever played.
Two solutions off the top of my head: re-adjust the mesh's UV's or do a higher quality model and bake the higher quality texture to your current lower quality one.
Well, the mod isn't that old. First post about it in August just before/during Quakecon, first release in December. Making news during Quakecon could of gotten it shoved to the back as QC is normally the big news at the time. News on the front page of moddb can, at times, be up for an hour or so before it gets bumped off (depending on how much is qued up).
I'd say don't give up and I'd still stand with the idea of going standalone by replacing all the assets slowly. Then whatever you don't use don't bother including them.
So did introversion remove the mandatory 'net connection for MP on Defcon to make it "DRM free"? ;)
Reinvent or design a different one? :) Doing something already done from scratch is a great way to learn how it works though. Knowing why it's doing what it's doing allows you to figure out what's wrong easier.
I want another SP game from you guys! :)
Do you still support vertex animation too? There some things that are better with vertex animations vs skeletal.
conversely, doom 3 (and Prey & ETQW) allow you to modify almost the entire game via scripting. C++ for things that were better handled there, script for things that didn't need the power of C++.
If Overgrowth has pretty much everything but the engine & a few critical functions in script (D3 for example didn't do trig in scripting, so some people make their own trig functions, which wasn't fun, but it worked!) then scripting is one of the best ways to go. It's like the C vs Assembler argument years ago. :)
videos = a waste of bandwidth. Want to look up something quickly? Prepare to waste an hour or so streaming & searching.
Is there ever going to be an SP game again? I really liked those.
that @ have "source" in the project somewhere. :D
Or use an existing IP. Those two always get quite a bit of attention (good or bad)
bummer. :/ would of preferred indy vs buying a game to play it. Even if it was a GPL/retail engine but not requiring a game to play. Oh well.
last reply by the dev's on the forums:
So... maybe they got an answer or valve isn't answering. Contact valve & say you want the game on steam. I'm sure if there's enough demand they'll go to the dev's & invite them.
not a fan of the pulse laser. It obstructs the view (in the video at least) & doesn't stick with the player's firing point, it looks more like a fast rail gun in q3a.
I don't see the need to say other teams are leaving & you're "saddened." (especially since you say they're "great mod teams" but then say "cannot handle managing a team and lead them through the difficulty of developing a game for everyone to play". You guys got a pre-release SDK, & lots of support from Crytek, not everyone else did) Many mods switch engines based on videos/specs months before a game is release making claims about what it can do. Odds are these guys didn't like the way crysis worked, found it crap for their needs & want to use something else that doesn't require as much work to use.
EDIT: the whole newsletter as a graphic is kind of hard to read. Any way it can be formatted HTML? Takes a while to load too. 2mb!
woohoo! Can't wait to install this!
for those interested, tourny with OA & free game hosting for a year as a prize: League.tastyspleen.net
I know I'm in the minority here, but I loved the SP versions of the game, I'd love to play another SP adventure.
heck no! How many games get modded now a days? UT, BF & Half Life. there's a 99% change any other game you buy will have nothing done with it. A 1% change something WILL be done with it even if there is a SDK.
It's like asking me if I only buy steaks if I feel like marinating them.
i know everybody here will boo this... but a fileplanet mirror would be nice. they support resumable downloads & give me a longer timespan in which to download the file. :)
i WASN"T incredibly nearly all the mods were HL1/2 mods. :) But I was suprise no HL2 one won MotY too.
cool! That would be SOOOOOO awsome in front of the GameCube! :D
so.... if we take screens of the game we automaticly win the funniest catagory, right? :)
