You need a Half Life 2 game installed in order to play it. That can be DODS, TF2, CSS or HL2 itself. I would assume a pirated copy could work, seeing its the files that are needed, not the actual game. If you have one of these installed, check your library - tools - source sdk 2007 to ensure that it is installed. If it is not, install it and try WW1 Source again.
You need to look at the top of the page and go to the downloads section. From there download WW1 Source 1.13. Once it downloads (it is in installer), run it and set the path to (your steamapps folder) / sourcemods (need to make the "sourcemods" folder yourself if you dont already have one).
After it installs, RESTART STEAM!!!! Then head in game and search servers.
- You WILL NOT be able to see WW1 Source servers from your desktop, you need to be in game to search servers thanks to a Steam update back in FEB.
If you have any more problems reply back here. Your not the only one who is finding playing Sourcemods more and more difficult!
And join this steam group, we will start gearing up and hosting some large events in a few weeks:
Hope you guys resume when you get back. Tracking
Expect some daily/weekly activity in game starting on August 1st all the way until the release of 2.0. Got a lot of returning groups to get the community back on it's feet.
I will be bringing my box of goodies (free games) with me as usual to help add fuel to the fire and jump start the community once again.
So if you have yet to have the chance to battle in 30-64 man servers, trust me, you do NOT want to miss out! Thats when the game truly shines.
We are also adding in a Zombie mod and/or NPC's for new type of events. Its going to be fun!
Money is not an issue. If the developers ask for it, their players in their community will supply the dough for it in a heartbeat. But the plan is, they want to wait until the game reaches 2.0 ready before trying for greenlight. From there, it'll need every serious member of this community helping by pushing votes for it.
Healing System YUT!
Not until 2.0 is released. They are adamant about that. I have been trying for a long time now lol. Even offering to help financially. They just don't want to display a "beta" product (even though 2.0 will be free so don't take "product" out of terms)
Give us some time, I kept that group under a iron fist for three years as it's leader. The new leaders are just getting into the swing of things and the improvements have been very noticeable. I am willing to bet that by 2014 you will see a new and improved 3rd Marines over even that of the old days.
Prolly too late to start thinking up new things to add, but good point on MG Assist. What can be added to increase teamwork. No one will care about points. What about a health bonus if close. MG takes longer to over heat. Or use half the ammunition they have in current drum. Or a slight zoom on their rifles to give them reason to stick close to a MG.
I am not an actual developer but I did there website so I have access to the developer build of 2.0 and yes, they have discussed different gamemodes to allow a "Hardcore" style of one shot one kill for servers to use. However, I cannot say because I do not know if they have the time or plans to still do it or if they havent already added it. I don't know. But trust me, if you come to one of our Realisms we host almost every day, you wont last long once you "go over the top". It is purely luck a lot of the times if you are one of the few left standing and make it to the enemies trench lines.
Love the net over the doughboys helmet.
Well I think I found out the fix. It 100% worked for me, may work for you guys. And of course if it doesnt, the above "workaround" works but only for the server listed.
Anyway, I was still participating in the "Beta". Well...we already all have the Beta. So...go to your settings in steam and "Opt out of the Beta". It will restart your steam and now servers are showing again.
To new Downloaders - For some odd reason servers are not appearing in peoples search queries threw steam (and thats after restarting Steam of course). Well, its not a solution, but I found that if you add a server to your favorites tab itll show there at least. The 3rd Marines server is: 18.104.22.168:27015
There are two other servers, but since my server browser is also busted, I dont have their IP's.
Amazing as always! Looks like any WW1 Source players better play now before 1.13 is a thing of distant past! 2.0 is TOTALLY different!
If any of you are having a hard time figuring out when players play WW1 Source (large crowds), just join our steam group. Youll start noticing we have scheduled and unscheduled events all the time. Heres the link to it:
I have access to their SVN/Dev version of the update they are working on (I did their website which no one decided to keep paying for lol). And trust me, work continues actually a little more rapidly than usual. They picked up some experienced coders (which was what has been stalling them for a very long time now) and Im seeing a lot of progress again. And if your an old player you should redownload the mod and give it another try as is. I'll admit is not a Battlefield 3 quality, but its fun quality can be a lot of fun sometimes. And TRUST me, if it were not for a few of us who stuck around through this mods very short fame it got when it released, we wouldnt be sitting here talking about this MASSIVE update about to happen. Show your support by helping the fan base grow by having players in game when they first download and try out WW1 Source. Im not taking much stock in the thousands of players who we saw come and go during the mods initial release almost 3 years ago to be that reliable again after 2.0 comes out.
Nope. Servers more active on weekends. Developers still working on another update. Its slow, but not dead.
Join us today (3rd Marines) as we celebrate our third year anniversary! And stop by and say hi on our website if you have never been to it before. Tons of WW1 Source related information and community discussions!
Join this steam group you two, we still through events (mainly on weekends). But we use this group to announce when we are having them. On weekends we easily get 40+ players via this method whenever we host a event. On weekdays though we are less active because of school and work. Steamcommunity.com
Newest Invalid Steam ID Fix for anyone having it. I went with the easiest old ways of deleting the (Client Reg Blob and User Data) but that didnt work. Even deleting the config folder no longer works. So, Instead of doing the SURE FIRE way of deleting everyhting, I too the time to delete as little as I could but still get the error to go away and this is what I got. Hope you guys enjoy:
One person I talked to who had similiar problems didnt have his "Source SDK Base 2007" installed in his tools menu. Maybe another steam "update" did something from the WW1 Source launcher from forcing the user to download and install it. But anywho, check to see if that is installed.
Try uninstalling one more time and then download from here: Moddb.com
Download the pink option (not the blue Desura option) and install from that method instead with the desktop installer. Pay attention to what path the installer wants to install in. If you own a 64-bit computer or have all your steam folders and games in a different area of your computer like another harddrive, you MUST make sure that the installer is pointing to where all your other stuff is. I have a 64 bit rig and on testing this I saw that the installer did not point to my 64-bit path, it only pointed to "Program Files", not "Program Files (x86)" which is where my steam folder is located.
(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods)
After re-installing, restart your steam and open your library. Then try to play WW1 Source again. Let me know if this worked.
Did you guys change your path? It should be installed in Steam/Steamapps/sourcemods/WWI_Source (Note that is a "I" and not a one). I mean we see new players weekly so if its just a very select few who are having this problem something makes me suggest it was user error (and dont take that the wrong way of course, believe me, plenty of brand new players play every week. Plus when it comes to EVERY single Total War mod Ive installed over the past 6 years I still manage to mess something up each time. It happens to everybody). Also, you must already have a previous source game installed whether it be HL2, TF2, or DODS. Other than that and what I suggested in my previous post Im all out of guesses here. Maybe some screenshots of your install folder as you are reinstalling and a screenshot of where you installed the mod to would help.
Thats odd. After re-installing try running it in Administrator mode a few times. But Im not sure, never heard of this problem before. I would recommend you download it from here instead of Desura.
You need to restart steam. Then it will appear.
You can be garunteed to play with other people when you download and go to play. But make an effort to keep checking on weekends too, thats when the large crowds come.
OMG that has to be a pain to make maps for this mod lol! Major thumbs up to your mapping team. I really also liked the amt of action going on. In a few scenes there had to be over 50 defenders in buildings firing away at eachother.
Letting you guys know that their will be a new WW1 Source Community getting released on December 15th. It will include ways to create your own events in WW1 Source with admin powers, a clan database showcasing the different clans in the game that details each ones activity requirements and a little about themselves, a mapping section with a chance to win actual money for your completed maps, a more insightful look into 2.0 with Developer interviews to see how each angle of 2.0 is being produced along with grabbing some never seen before eye candy, and even frequent prize giveaways where you could win free games from the community for doing next to nothing except simply just showing your support and registering!
Alright sorry for coming off kinda strong. But unlike you, there have been dozens of people telling others to not download this mod because "there arent any players". Turst me, I wouldnt have been playing since its release if all I did every day was run around a expensive 60 slot server by myself. And yes, It has filled up completely before, last time was just 4 weeks ago. Anyway, yes, you need to restart steam after you install WW1 Source for any servers to show.
