Hello everyone, as seen on the Faceless IndieDB page, the July update covered a few things, including Faceless: Deliverance, the upcoming novel surrounding Daniel North. A lot of people might wonder why Faceless warrants a novel and that is a fair observation to make. Let's take a little trip down memory lane.
Faceless started out in 2012 as a small modification intended to effectively port 'Slender' into the Source engine along with multiplayer. When I took over as the project lead in 2013, I wanted it to have a more original concept and a more original story. Turning the game into a fully-fledged story would be extremely difficult to do and it will have subtle hints here and there as well as a single-player Prologue and Epilogue which hints at pivotal story elements, but that isn't where I stopped.
When I kept writing down characters, ideas, locations and twists, I decided that there would be potential ideas to make Faceless a much larger game than it is, but that isn't something we can realistically do, so I took to writing all the ideas down. Before I knew it, I was structuring the ideas in the form of a book and as of late September, it's hit 30,000 words. A novel is 40,000 words and I see it hitting that fairly soon. This is easily the most I've written in my life but it's not been difficult at all yet. These are ideas I have been gathering, changing and adapting over the last 3 years and they were all stored in this head of mine waiting to be written down.
For those of you who haven't seen the update, Faceless: Deliverance follows the story of Daniel North just before he goes missing, it explores his motives and goals as he hopes to banish The Being from our plane. Sadly, things aren't that simple and the entire story focuses on the consequences of these attempts to get rid of The Being.
Deliverance covers a 3 year time-period (2012-2015) from beginning to end, with a story-rich focus on the Supernatural Mystery genre along with a hint of horror and conspiracy. I'll be updating this post as I go along, but I look forward to showing you all more of it and I sincerely hope that there will be people, gamers or not, that would like to give this a read when it's out!
