Exactly. and thats also the reason why the gravity gun rip-off was crap in the Doom expansion pack

This engine is being used on a few industry games, such as dark messiah of might and magic.
The souce engine is still one of the best engines going! and as refriginator says valve are constantly updating it. Episode 2 brings more destructable enviroments than before - as theyve brought in a guy who did special effects on the Lord of the rings films to help.
Portal also brings the new depth of field technique that blurs the gun slightly to make it look more realistic - sounds simple but IMO looks brilliant.

Valve only knows whats in store for Ep 3.

Yes Crisis looks amazing - but the screens that look so good are running on DirectX10, which many people wont be able to run for at least 12 months, Crysis will run on DX9 machines, but wont look anywhere near as good

Hmm yeah im not sure about changing too much of the story... Half-Life already has a very intricate and subtle, yet complex storyline. Changing too much may lead to plotholes or continuity errors... But hey, its your mod :P
I think Blue Shift: Black Mesa would be better than Barney's Tales for the title... but again.... your mod!

plus the fact that HL2:Episode One was a three hour long game, and these guys are trying to completley remodel a 15+ hour long game....
So actually the work to weight ratio is in Black Mesa's corner as in the same amount of time they've done more stuff!

Oh and Black Mesa team - just promise me there will be a release of this mod BEFORE Valve get you guys on theyre payroll and start selling it through steam.

Although i would probably purchase it if that did happen
:D

you should just have to put it in steam apps, and then it will show up in 'my games' in steam.
If your still having trouble i believe you might have to download the original alpha version, then patch up to the latest.

Ifind it amusing that arrhytmia's idea of life outside a computer game, is to go to forums and try to force media updates out of mods....

hmmmmm... bet he's a real hit with the girls

ive just COPIED AND PASTED the date from THE MEDIA UPDATE.....
Sorry if i seem a little aggressive, but i cant understand how you cant see the update i've just looked at. Let alone understand how someone who's only been a member here for a month (Arrhythmia) gets off on saying a mod is dead.
Sorry to the mod team guys for posting this again, but i feel it needs to be done.
Here is the last media announcement that states there wont be regular updates for awhile because theyre busy building the game.
Here's the last announcement that some people claim 'doesnt exist':

"7 comments | Mon 24th Apr, 2006 @ 2:05:58pm | By -Kalashnikov
We've been hearing a lot of things circulate throughout the community recently, so, to clarify: we're NOT dead. We're working behind the scenes and Black Mesa is really starting to shape up. Our weapons are in-game, skinned and undergoing the animating process. Our levels are filling up with custom textures and world props. Instead of ERROR signs, we now have houndeyes and bullsquids to play with. Instead of Kleiners everywhere, we actually have some of our own scientists standing about: sadly, not yelling profanity at Gordon just yet.

We're really proud of the progress we've made since January and a lot of that work has been made possible by a fresh batch of development talent and overall team dedication. In the Character Modeling department we're welcoming cman2k & CGJeff: both of whom model and skin their creations. In 2D Art we're welcoming Piks3y and Redmotion, both well experienced in their areas of talent. In Level Design we're introducing kol, already working on his respective chapter. For Prop Modeling & Skinning we're welcoming grudge, Kobi, vertthrasher, Evolution, and tremulant. Finally in the Animation department we have Damian, already working on a small assortment of weapons. On top of all this we have several individuals on the applicant list showing great promise.

With all of the new faces, we're still looking to secure some more developers. Our biggest need is in the prop modeling, prop skinning, texture art and character animator areas, but as always we are willing to look at applicants to other departments. For anyone interested, make sure you send an e-mail to jobs@blackmesasource.com with a bit about you, your past experience and some examples of your work.

Also worth noting is the work on the Black Mesa script. It has been going on for little over two months now and we are beginning to prepare for positions in voice acting and experienced FacePoser users. We do not want to see any voice acting applicants just yet, but we will make a public announcement when we are as well as how to apply.

For anyone who missed the notice in the January update, we are in a development crunch. During this period no new media will be released and we will be turning down any interviews/previews with Black Mesa. This allows us to focus directly on everything as a whole, rather than on a few areas to bring them up for public-release quality. In this development crunch we are moving to secure our custom textures, models, weapons, characters, levels, code, sound and other such assets into Black Mesa.

Hopefully this stops the rumours for a while so we can focus more on our work and less on the "Oh no, Black Mesa is dead!" messages we're seeing. As always, our official forum community at Forums.blackmesasource.com is the place to chat with developers and to get the latest on what's happening with Black Mesa."

Are you taking back what YOU said "8"...or "Eight"?

*sighs*
click the news / features tab at the top of this page, scroll down a bit and you will see the last update, which was presented to everyone on the frontpage of MOD DB when it came out.

Get your sherlock holmes hat on and notice that the announcement, entitled - 'status report' says:

Mon 24th Apr, 2006 @ 2:05:58pm | By -Kalashnikov

hmmm my powers of deduction determine that it was about a month ago.... happy now?
...oh and by the way *puts on childish hat and dances round the room like a moron*
the last time I saw the word 'Knew' - thats how it was spelt K N E W,
not 'NEW' as you put it.

Sorry about that last bit. but if your gonna flame people for theyre spelling then it's gotta happen to you. Play with fire and you will get burned.

Now will you please shut up and learn how to use this site properly?

alright! give the baby his bottle. If you want to think its dead - go ahead, knock yourself out.
If you think that way then why post here?
A media release about a month ago, and two of the mod's team members each saying its not dead mere DAYS ago is not proof enough for you?

As i said previously, if you want to belive the mod is dead then f*ck off back to gay school
otherwise support the team by not spreading slanderous material

Hey Arrhythmia seems pretty sure this mod is dead, like he's the Mod leader... anyone with that much determination MUST know what he's talking about.... oh hang on it says ADMINISTRATION at the top and not Arrhythmia.... my mistake
MEH
*sarcasm mode disengage*

Arrhythmia, there have been two posts from two of the team members here, nevermind on the forums, so if your not interested in this mod why dont you shut up and f*ck off? - if you are interested in it, then shut up, only say constructive things, and wait paitently for its release with the rest of us.

Well said Kalashnikov
I for one appreciate the amount of work these guys have to put in without getting paid, WHILST living a life involving education or work.
Im sure many people would agree with me when I say this mod already looks to be a million times better than Valve's 'excuse' for Half-Life : Source.
Im sure the guys working on it want to do the game the justice it deserves, and as a fan so do I.
So Cut these guys some slack...

...and Arrhythmia - Its not been THAT long since the last media announcement.... especially considering it mainly told us there would be less updates in favour of more work towards the mod itself.

Long Live Black Mesa.

Was just thinking, if your including "artillery barrages" like in vanilla BF2, then maybe the CHAOS team could have a shrine instead of cannons and would summon one of the great Chaos Gods - e.g. Khorne could appear and rain down fireballs from above or something.
Again - just an idea i thought i'd share....

...-PrivateMax - Do you play BF2 on Dial-up?!?
I highly doubt it :D

I agree that races should not be able to take other species' vehicles, but the point raised about the Orks is a valid one, as they do tend to steal and convert vehicles and other resources. Maybe to steal a vehicle the orks would have to get their 'mechanic' to do some work to said vehicle before it becomes usable by the orks. Also the model skin could change to an altered Orky version... y'know that red wunz go faster!
This is just a thought and i realise that it would require more work on the part of you guys
Keep up the good work!

I agree with not over referencing Shepard or Barney, but you guys should definitly put Barneys model in for the tram ride (Assuming everyone has played Blue Shift) - Barney IS in the original Half-Life as the Guard who cant get in the door near the beginning of the tram ride, so i think this should be included for BM:S
