LP = longplay? If so, this is a great opportunity for us to see how it works “outside the test chamber”. We’re using these videos to find bugs, mapping mistakes, inconveniences and difficulties which would otherwise remain invisible to us. After that we can do some improvements and release a better version of ESHQ.

About your question. Unfortunately, I’ve missed that inspiration, and the idea of “From aside” is deeply sleeping now. The only thing I can maintain now is ES: Randomaze, the plotless PvE (I guess?) shooter with the configurable maps generator

Hi everyone!

We've updated our deployment tool Moddb.com to adapt it for Windows 10. In particular:

✅ The method for checking access rights has been completely rewritten. It now correctly detects problems with permissions to create files and entries in the Windows registry.

✅ A special section has been added to the user manual to troubleshoot access problems. The user will be automatically redirected there if the app cannot obtain the necessary access rights.

✅ Updated the self-updating algorithm. Previously, it used the file version substitution in the file name to circumvent the ban on overwriting the executable file. In this form, the algorithm would require granting administrator rights to the app after each update. Now a more “conservative” bypass scheme is used, which allows you to assign permissions once and for all.

So, now this thing should be more useful on actual operating systems. If not, you still can use stand-alone 7Z archives to update our mods. In any case, thanks for helping us improve it.

Best regards,
Nicolay B. aka RD_AAOW

Hi!

Don't worry. The actual assembly just contains the wrong version file. It doesn't affect the other content.

If you can find a fog on the last map (with the time machine), you have an actual version

You probably looked at the old repository. Here’s the new one: Github.com. It is still open-source, according to the “mother” license

Hi!

It was an old distribution variant on CD where almost all radio was replaced with WILD radiostation right inside the EXE (to decrease the size of the installation). This variant uses the Ghost installer

Hi!

Sorry for the late answer. Unfortunately, ModDB doesn't indicate new comments under articles and files. So, it is too easy to miss them.

About the problem: some DFF (like cars) have more difficult structure than regular buildings. We haven't realized how to parse them yet. But, if it is still actual, please, let us know. We'll try to fix this

It is even better to update it to the 14th version (before the ending). This should [we're keeping our fingers crossed] improve your impressions of the mod

Hi!

We're sorry for this inconvenience. We certainly understand that the artist, the creator (or whoever the modder really is) must be completely free from politics. But we're still living in real world... unfortunately. And we should take into account all vulnerabilities that can lead our users (or us) to negative experience.

This situation has no connections with the mod itself. It is about the entire Lab (about us) and its products. Our Policies directly conflict with some laws and dispositions passed by the authorities that you've listed above. And our consultant on such issues (as well as our co-founder, who wished to remain anonymous) recommended us to... just not interfere with them.

App stores allow us to simply leave certain territories. Our apps aren't available there. But ModDB is for everyone in the world. That is great, obviously. And it is extremely sad for us that we have to force the restriction here.

Just to be clear: we have no money (we mean ‘Money’), no power (we mean ‘Power’), no protection and no patronage. We're a team of one (sometimes, two) coder(s) and a group of ModDB members who help us with everything we can't do (thanks to all of them). Therefore, we cannot ignore such a problem (or its possibility).

We hope that this situation is temporary. When we are sure that this conflict doesn't threaten our users (and us, of course) we'll immediately disable the XPUN. So, we also hope for your understanding.

Best regards,
Nicolay B. aka RD_AAOW

Hi!

Thank you very much for such a positive feedback! We're happy to know that ESHQ now works as intended.

But, please, help us clarify: is the gravity problem still present in version 13.8.8? Or you're talking about versions 13.7.x or older?

The attack speed in HL engines directly depends on FPS of the corresponding animation in the weapon's model file (strange, but, whatever). But the power is hardcoded.

...I think, we can use the secondary attack to implement your offer. Something like pipewrench in HLOF with more powerful hit on the RMB

The low attack speed is an element of basic balance from this weapon. So, we need some tests to compare the existing configuration with the 6x one

It's here, starting from line 324:

Hi everyone!

We have possibly fixed (yeah, again) the incorrect gravity triggering between maps 20 and 21 (when exiting the “simulation”).

The possible reason was in the engine code that processes the trigger events. These events may occur at the same time (with millisecond gap). So, it can depend on the speed of your CPU and motherboard stuff how this bug will behave.

If speed is relatively low, this code is able to process all triggers correctly. Otherwise, it was possible to process some events “at once” but wrongly: one function call receives statuses from two or more events, processes the first one (it can do only one per call) and labels them all as done.

We have made it to process all events independently: now it can label only one event per call. We hope, this should help.

P. S. If you are now on the map that goes after this scene and you are experiencing problems with gravity, please, remove file “achi2.sc” from the mod directory and start it again. This should help too.

We’re sorry for this inconvenience

Hi!

Thank you very much for such a positive and... heartful review! Messages like yours make us think that we’re doing something right sometimes.

Yes, we know about mistakes done in subtitles and voice lines a few years ago. It was our bad. And we’re still searching for actors who can write new correct voice samples for corresponing scenes. But it is more difficult that we thought in the beginning.

Thank you again for your attention to detail. Our main idea was to show some things and situations that we can’t find in real life, other games or movies. You know, good movie about some disaster is a rare thing. So, we’re trying to build them as well as we can.

Intermediate sections may be poor and boring for now. We’re still working on them. When we do another run (yes, we’re doing walkthroughs regularly – to find and replace bad geometry, poor desing and other mistakes) they seem for us... like a place to relax for player. But we understand that they should and can look more interesting and less... em... junky.

It’s very likely that we were inspired by other mods. But we can’t think of titles other than (obviously) Half-Life 1, Half-Life 2 (and episodes), Black Mesa and Residual Life. Maybe, something from Afraid of monsters DC, Nightmare house 2 and Survive in Catacombs too. But that wasn’t the goal.

The hospital is an implementation of an idea we met in some other mods (maybe, harder a bit). We thought that this activity can be some kind of meditation... that was questionable decision, we know. So, it can be passed faster without critical loss in collectable objects (there is a hole in a wall between the first and the last room).

Anyway, we’re happy to know that your experience is mostly positive. But we have one question at last: did you experienced an incorrect gravity level after the “simulation” section?

Hi again!

First of all - _sorry for gravity_. We're still failing in our tries to fix it. It is a real conspiracy how it can stay low after a plenty of triggers that should disable it.

Anyway, thank you very much for your job! It was long and impressive adventure! We really like your style!

We've found a lot of questionable and unobvious points. So, we'll try to make them work properly... again...
