Their range is really small. Basically they just throw their axes on occasion instead of swinging them.
I have found some help on the old battlefield forums. It seems that the unit editor MFC (latest version is 1.05b) loads amongst others, HeroData.xcr and Items.xcr. The later is usually the problem.
I had the same problem but i propably know a solution: Rename your item.xcr (english folder of the game) to something (i have added a "B") and try to start the editor. If it will start search in the folder where your WBC3 is installed in my version was a weird WBC3 temp data. Erase it and don't forget to rename you Item.xcr." says Darq.
You can visit the topic in discussion yourself at: Archiv.the-battlefield.com
Frostbat tweaked in 0.8.3. Thanks for your notice.
I actually had the same problem with a video I uploaded on moddb of my own mod. I think they are having some technical problems.
Yep. I was able to reproduce that "real" problem and it has been reported by multiple people. We are still strugling to fix it, but I'm afraid the next version (coming soon) will still inherit it. Worry not, we have unleashed the heavy artillery to kill this bug so it won't survive for long.
As for new content, I can confirm that the next version will reveal more of the story behind TPC, but it will not be another chapter.
But it's a great mod title... :(
Make sure you DO NOT install the unit editor in The Protectors folder. For some reason they don't cope well one with another. Either install the Unit Editor in the original game directory or use another xcr editor.
After more tests the problem is clear. Your computer needs to be able to run in a 800x600 resolution for the menus to load. I will see if something can be done about this in future releases.
For those of who you have problems with the self-extracting installation pack (MAC users), I have uploaded v0.8.2 FULL RAW pack on the official website.
Hmm. Try deleting all content from the Video folder (but not the folder itself). Maybe make a back-up.
What do you mean by "the game won't run"? Does it leave an error message upon accessing TheProtectors.exe? Does it crash in game?
If you mean programming language, then it is C++. We could always use some more help. After all, this whole project is based on volunteer work. ANY area of expertise would be great, but our main lack as for spring 2014 is:
1) Storyteller. Write quests, dialogues, ideas to happen in The Protectors Campaign.
2) GFX artist. Design menus, loading screens, intro clips, portraits etc. Especially 2D design.
3) Mapper. Create scenarios using the in-game editor for either singleplayer or multiplayer use.
Thank you for your kind words. If you're interested, please drop me a Private Message (PM).
Wow, The Protectors has entered top 30 on moddb. Thank you all for the support! We hope to bring you a fun, interesting and memorable RTS/RPG/Puzzle game and this achievement only brings us closer to our goal.
Thanks for the suggestions, we will look into them. Some units have been left out to make races easier to balance. After we found the perfect recipe, we might add the left out units with already balanced stats (according to said recipe).
You can always upload your maps and share them via the protectors forum or, if you prefer, you can send me an e-mail attachment and I will include some of them in the next release as official TPC scenarios. Private Message me if you're interested.
Thank you for the feedback,
Yes, anything can happen at any time (battle, dialogue, shop, etc.) just like an ambush when traveling, with the addition that sometimes you can back out of it a.k.a. loosing that opportunity (not in the case of this image).
I'm afraid that the next patch will only come somewhere in june. The mod works on a voluntary basis, everyone works as much as he/she wants whenever he/she wants so it's kind of hard to predict release dates. I can say for sure though that the next release will have new items :)
Glad the forums have been of help :)
Yes, just press CTRL+number instead. This works in game and campaign dialogues.
Are you sure you installed it corectly? First install 0.8 FULL, then apply 0.8.1 and lastly 0.8.2. If there are any missing dlls still, they should easily be found on the internet.
Needless to say, I was Gold and really just trying to survive (hence the fortress - the dwarven way of winning through defense!)
I am glad to tell you that the rectangle bug you reported earlier is fixed in 0.8.2 as well as the rally point.
Done in version 0.8.2
Menu resolution is 600x400 while game resolution is setup by user. I have not tried it, but the menus seem to have some fixed features engine-set. I might be able to tweak that though, but why should I? Is there a problem with the current menu resolution?
Worry not, that crash has been with the protectors since the beginning. It doesn't do any harm, its just some bad code within the promo image. Hopefully we will fix it before reaching version 1.0.
The chemistry puzzle is original - you HAVE to insert it, no, make the whole mod around it! In general, I like hard puzzles with meaning (educational) or relation to story (the Myst series is one of my favorites) except the ones where you have to choose an item which resembles an image (drawing, shape, etc.) found within the level (usually at a different scale, size) and that's because either the level design is poor, uninteresting and boring to investigate it in detail or the shape is too hidden, unimportant. Care is needed when you build these kind of puzzles that require visual memory, in my opinion.
I will post an article about this new thing soon. In short, the hosting player can choose how much a slug fest or a raze fest match lasts (original game strictly set these game types to 30 minutes).
