Brilliant article.
I've tried 7th serpent and Hall of Mirrors already, as well as some of the Max Payne 1 mods, and they were lots of fun.
So I really look forward to try out the whole list.

Someone better pick up the this - the mod had great potential, a shame you had to end it.
I would like smell to have more focus in games.
Of cause you can't do 'real' smell atm. (even though there is something like an experimental system for that), but what you CAN do is putting audiovisual clues ingame.
Take pain as an example of how it's done. You don't feel pain when you play a fps, but if you get hit there is typically a red flash, shaking screen, impact sound etc., all symbolising pain.
And enchanced hearing from Dystopia. You are able to hear footsteps, but the enchancement is that the exact position of the sounds show up on-screen, even if it is behind walls, doors etc.
I would like a system analog to that to do smells.
Hey, I didn't know there was a decent game dev. education in Denmark.
wow, this is so much like looking out an airplane window.
Realism ftw.
Planet-busting is useless.
Especially since you need 10,000 times the firepower to destroy a planet than to simply kill all life on the surface...
Is it a bacteria or a virus?
There is quite a difference between the two, a bacteria can live, move and reproduce on it's own, a virus only when it have infected a host cell.
Lol @ moderator making critisism disappear.
It only influence my decision when there are already good-looking mods made or in progress for the game.
The fact that the game "can be modded" don't do it in itself.
The only weak point was the vocals for the ending song.
Everything else was super.
Nope, it's a 1-1 match, meaning 1 tyranid equals 1 marine.
I know the team considered an asymetric solution, but decided to do this instead.
There is a Tyranid class called overmind, which control a number of hormagaunts or termigaunts, so the Marines will be outnumbered.
'cause another ww2 mod is just what the gaming community need.
No, not really...
I would like to see a more mod-friendly copyright law.
As it is now, you must actively seek out the copyright owner and get their written permission, which they can cancel at their leisure.
And then you have the "must actively enforce his copyright"-thing, which can often lead the right holder to say "no".
I would like modding to be free as long as
a) it's a non-commercial project
b) the IP holder is given due credit
c) there is compeating licenced game project
d) the universe is respected (no Tomb Raider pron)
I stopped playing ES because the ship system sucked.
I'll give it another try now that it's changed.
From the forum guidelines:
* DO NOT ASK FOR AN ENTIRE MOD TEAM. We cannot stress this enough. Simply going "I have a great idea PM me for info" will not cut it. If you are looking for a team and have an idea, come up with a proper design document, make a website, and Register your Mod before posting about it in Mod Discussion.
* Make sure the topic subject reflects what you want to do. If you want to mod a specific engine, tell us. If you're looking for feedback, tell us. If you want to just try out a concept, tell us.
* If you only have a rough idea or want to see what people think of very specific aspects (the behaviour of one unit, for example) then the best place to post is the modDB Bar.
"The release that will change the face of modding"
C'mon PVKII is a good mod, but there are far more innovative mods out there.
I don't see this release changing the face of modding...
Then do you start out with the same equipment as a guard also?
Good graphics.
I like the idea of using rhinos as domesticated animals a lot.
Is the Hraesvelgr an existing myth, or did you come up with it yourself?
The name seems icelandic/old nordic...
Download the file, unzip it, run the unzipped file with BitTorrent or something else - works for me...
Looking good...
also upps your chance of getting foxed quite a bit.
Uuuhh nice :)
Seems like you managed to nail all the flaws down.
The problem is that most of those time-boxed games end up with development stopping at the release.
No patching sucks, since all mods (and games) need them.
Well, I don't think it's in active development anymore.
I've been a beta tester at the project, and haven't been contacted for quite a few months.
But with a working and quite polished release, I wouldn't call it "dead".
If they posted an update, I would not hesitate to vote for MOTY for them (hint hint).
But they look too dead by now to deserve a vote - last update 6 months ago, and last news 1 year ago.
Seems like they still stubbornly claim to be "working behind the scenes" and "have functional core gameplay" on their forum - well, prove it!
Nice.
Customizable ship colours?
You guys are just full of pleasant surprises...
I keep wondering why all the colours are gone.
Seems like every single ship is unpainted.
Has decent paint suddently become extremely expensive, or what is the explanation for all the naked metal?
