I'm too using this technick for my mod
First i drawn character textures but baking HP map beats alot of time giving you more to work with (AO, cavitymaps, lightmaps, specmaps, ect) and you can make a second next gen version ;]

Ok, just trying to help or suggest something.
You can fake normal maps where the light doesn't reach if you got a global cube map blending with all normal maps or radiosity (dont know is it possible to implement to gold source?)
But the right wall as you can see still looks like simple similar checker bump.
just suggesting unused potential :3.

Bake the normal map for the tiles, they look kinda flat . Maybe something like this? Cubesmith.com
BTW will you use cube maps with normal maps for dark places? Because the unlight left wall doesn't show any depth.

One detail, the wall is kinda bright, almost emissive.
Not relly for a MP game with the 5000 wpoly and 50000 epoly ;p.
Still looks nice, little too flat ( like killbox with a building inside ;] )
