Yup, definitely no new units however in this case, they did add some but only to increase the balance between factions such as the Toxin Recoiless Rifleman among others (play the mod to find out).

It is as expected because General Juhziz is intended to be overpowered and his Challenge mission is very difficult (another reason why EA decided to cut Juhziz's mission during development). I don't think they will attempt to do as you suggested as it would be considered a major contradiction as Juhziz himself was supposed to be very overpowered but balanced.

Try and test it. It might work due to the fact that AVP Classic 2000 is the same as the Gold Edition (I may be wrong). Just in case, have a backup of the game ready if it doesn't work.
