After programming for 15 years, and making many games and utilities (including heading the dungeon master pro project) I have been dedicating myself to my biggest project yet: the procedurally generated RPG, Malevolence: the Sword of Ahkranox.
Just came back to check this out after several months away and it's looking awesome! Well done!
I just saw this for this first time today. Just wanted to say that it looks great! Well done so far! I can't wait to see where this goes!
Thinking about it, yes! :D We love gog
Shared! Thank you :)
We got Greenlit a couple of weeks ago! :D :D :D Dreams CAN come true :P
Thanks Rhyl3yMaster! It always gives us a fuzzy feeling when people have been following it from way back when! :D
Thank you! :D We're still giddy!
And we're very excited about it! WOOO!!!
Can I just say, guys, thank you SO MUCH for making a zombie survival game that only has shambler zombies in it. Every other FPS zombie survival I've found has been ruined by having mandatory runners, and it just totally ruins the game experience for me. What you guys are making is the makings of a masterpiece and you should be super proud of your work! I've been recommending your game to everyone I know!

Not a problem! Sorry for the inconvenience :\
Hi Fargo69! We've had a couple of odd video card compatability issues, but most of them seem to go away if you turn off Post Processing and Shadows, and set the Bloom level to zero!
We actually have another potion type in the works that claimed the purple colour!
Thank you :)
Not sure what the question is lol
Does the file "images\banner_itemadded.png" exist?
Next update is going to be even MORE awesome!
Oops! You're right! Thanks!
Actually, you might find that it'll run really well on your laptop in shaderless mode :)
This, my good sir, is AWESOME.
Gonna grab a copy when I get home from work!
The loading next area will always happen at the same rate. The world gets loaded in chunks. Check out the minimap in the corner of the screen. The red borders show the edges of a world chunk, and it will load the new area each time you cross them :)
As for performance, you can go into the config screen on the game's launcher and fiddle around in there. Doing things such as disabling shadows or lowering the detail level will increase performance.
In addition, fairly soon we're going to be adding a new optimization mode to the game which will allow it to be played without DirectX Shaders. It'll give the game more of an old-school look and also run it about 8x faster!
I count my blessings on that fact every time I start the game up and here that intro theme haha
Oh, but the goodies are so delicious! The official soundtrack is also nearly done! I thought it WAS done, but Nicolas came back and said "You know what? I have about 7 new tracks I want to add to it!"
In our latest blog post on here, there are instructions on how to manually install. That should bypass any issues you're having :)
Most people playing it seem to have no problems... We will be doing optimizations as time goes on, though! We're on an eternal quest to make it run better and faster :)
:D we have a few people playing it through Wine!
Thanks Booman! We actually have a test team handling our errors for us. The game has an automatic updater, so as we fix things, everything will get sent out to you automatically :) You can see the list of what we're working on here: Malevolencealphatest.blogspot.com.au
Yeah, our fingers are crossed!
We just wanted to make sure everyone had a good, easy starting dungeon to learn from :D
End of the month :)
French are more than welcome to do voices! It's one of the old-school medieval accents!
lol pre-orders aren't too far off.
lol gotta be careful with the zombies in Malevolence. They have a 1 in 10 chance of infecting you if they land a hit!
Wait until you see the crypts!
Oh, don't you worry :) the world of Ahkranox is infinite in size, and we plan to make use of all of it ;)
lol thank you :) there are more to come, too!
Ahahahahaha very subtle! We can't wait to get you the demo! We hope you enjoy it as much when it comes out!
(We're playing Grimrock as well. What an awesome game!)
Thanks, booman! Good to know that some of the fans get the vision!
haha we're very glad that you think so! Thank you!
haha yes indeed. Port cities will have docks where you can pay for rides on cargo ships to other towns. Via the waterways it's possible to travel HUGE distances!
This pleases us :) no questions for the Q&A post coming up?
Thank you! :D
Very glad to hear you liked it! :D
Really great work, guys! You're putting us to shame! :P
All of the above ;)
Thank you! Nothing can stop us!
Yeah haha. Don't worry! If it ran that slow, we wouldn't show it until it was fixed!
Oh, no disrespect taken. Just letting you know how it all worked :)
We're only in alpha at the moment. We put clues on how to get into the alpha across the various pages we operate so that only the really dedicated fans would get in. Since then it's been closed off and our alpha test has begun. When beta testing begins, the test team will be hand-picked by only the most trusted testers.
Thanks for the compliment! We're really excited about having these in the game!
There will be. Like we said in the blog post, this is just a rough indicative video.
Well we're really making this as our ideal game, and that is purely a homage to the old-school genre with a bit of a modern twist. The only people we're really aiming it at is ourselves, but we like to hear what people think from time to time, as others are saying they want to play it! But at the same time, we're trying to avoid having too long a development time. Having to model, texture and animate every single weapon type will push development back literally months :( we'll be posting a video soon with the swoosh graphic to show you what it would look like, so that way people will have something to compare to :)
The HUD you see in those screenshots is an optional HUD for old-school RPG players. It can be turned off to show a more modern looking one in the options.
Hahaha thank you! Good to see people getting the reference! We actually had someone test play it on the weekend who quite literally screamed out loud when they fell into a pit! Mission success as far as we're concerned!
Completely unconscious, I can assure you!
Incredible looking project guys, well done! I can't wait to play it!
Single player with mayyyyybe a multiplayer expansion later on ;-)
Very cool! I look forward to seeing where this goes!
I'm practically giddy about having this running on my iPad... Awesome!
This looks incredible! Well done!
