World of Goo

Game review

It's very hard not to give this game a perfect score. It's got that strange addictive quality like when you pick up a rubick's cube and start trying to solve it. In this game you experiment by building different structures out of sticky goo balls in an attempt to reach the goal. The game has plenty of levels and it manages to feel fresh all the way to the very end. If you don't already own this game 5 times from all the Humble Indie Bundles it's been in, definitely buy it.

VVVVVV

Game review

I don't usually give a full 10 to a game but I truly believe that this game was the best game it could be. The simple mechanic of flipping gravity makes exploration interesting, and unlike any other platformer you've played. The retro music is memorable and the difficulty can get insane. If you're a veteran platformer fan then don't miss out on this one.

Penumbra: Overture

Game review

This game is everything I love about 3D videogames. It's immersive, it's got amazing atmosphere and it's based on a simple premise: "No turning back."

The combat mechanic is out of place and the game would be better without combat. Penumbra Black Plague recognized that and it's thankfully absent in that game. However, I still recommend this game as one of the creepiest and most atmospheric games ever released.

Machinarium

Game review

Although I'm in love with the art and the music, I can't stand adventure games where the puzzles are not logical. You will find yourself using a lot of trial and error in this game unless you look up the solutions online. If you're OK with that then it's truly worth your while. I'm glad I played it but now I'm happier listening to it's soundtrack.

Half-Life 2

Game review

There are certain segments which I felt tended to drag on in this game, but it's worth it to play the game at least once. This is the game that invented the modern shooter formula and it's still one of the finest examples of a successfully executed story driven shooter.

Cogs

Game review

I love this game. The sound effects are very appropriate with everything clicking and cranking and ratcheting and hissing, even the menus. Later in the game most of the puzzles you complete actually do something, like turning the rotors on a flying machine, or firing up a rocketship. This makes the game much less abstract and provides a nice sense of accomplishment when you finally complete a difficult puzzle. If you like sliding-block puzzles this game is the game for you. The only downside is that you can't turn off the timer on most of the puzzles and though you don't fail for working slowly, you are penalized in score. Possibly not a downside for some people but it's worth a mention.

Braid

Game review

Amazing style, creative puzzles and free music I still listen to years after beating the game. The only downside is that there isn't more game. If it were longer I'd give it a perfect 10.

And Yet It Moves

Game review

The game runs slowly and jerks on my computer even though it's such a simple game. The concept is novel and the controls are fine but something about the way it's made simply doesn't agree with my modern gaming PC.
