Huzzah! New Maps!
I might even be able to show off the other games modes on Stream!

One last question: When you say midnight, which time zone are we talking about?

If anything, that would be a fun alternate game mode. The code is bursting at the seams right now so it couldn't be put in as a modifier for the Borg ships. It would have to be a research related and could be locked out by having prerequisites. IF you post your ideas in the forum, maybe someone could come up with a way to flesh it out more than the little bit that I've done here.

I'd love to have some of these beautiful models in Space Engineers. I'm already working on an Excelsior Class to make it work in Space Engineers. I'm hoping that there could be a Star Trek based Space Engineers server at some point.

As for STA3, I'm excited for lots of new maps and updating the other game modes (Flagship Victory foremost among them) to be available for online play. We should have a celebration day when the patch is released and get a bunch of people together for a game!

A Random Borg Cube that can assimilate Capital Ships? Do you want Birth of the Federation style Cubes that wipe out whole civilizations with no effort? BECAUSE THIS IS HOW YOU GET THEM.

BotF Cubes are a true nightmare, just like AI Borg on the highest difficulty. They wiped out whole fleets in a single combat turn. Whole civilizations fell in 5 or 6 turns. Planets fell like leaves in Autumn. In their wake? tomb worlds...a monument to billions lost.

I know that feel, bro. I appreciate the maps that are currently in the game. They are great. I can't wait until Flagships are working as intended because it will be fun to revisit the maps without Capital Victory on to see if I can slay the Borg that way!

I'm very excited to see overhauls to the Galaxy Class. It feels like there will be multiple ways to play each race rather than just massing good stuff. Prometheus harass attacks will at least equal cloaked raids against tech buildings, I hope anyway.

I know Flagships have been addressed but has anyone played the other game modes for this update? In addition, has there been map submissions for the add-on or perhaps a map pack in the works? I'd love to have an attack wave survival type of map: All the humans on one side and the AI on the other, limited warp lanes in between the two and you have to protect yourself until you're able to over power them or until you finish the Research Victory (aka surviving long enough). It would be something like 'Anger and Mercy' from ST:Legacy or 'The Twilight Hour' from ST:Armada.

Flagships were just considered normal Capital Ships instead of being like they were in SoaSE:Rebellion. Example: the Flagships had special abilities to help them escape from combat, take reduced damage and deal increased damage. In addition, they had increased hitpoints, shields, and a generally larger size which distinguished them from their capital ship variants.

I'll hop back into co-op as well. I only did a test of 1.2 to see if Flagship victory was changed. I wouldn't mind getting back into a game of stomp the AI.

I must ask, will there be any gameplay mode additions? I know that Flagship Victory is still not how it was in Sins but will it be addressed in future updates?
Also, will there be additional maps or map packs listed for download?

Now THAT's a Centaur class. I never liked the original look from the TV series because they looked too much like a saucer section with nacelles glued on. Now it looks like a saucer section with a slim body, perfect for its role in STA3.

AverageCitizen - - 30 comments @ Star Trek Armada 3: 1.2 released!

In the stock Sins game, the Flagships have more hitpoints than the ship model that they use (I think it's base 15% more Hull and Shields). They also have special abilities which allow them to be more survivable in combat: Prevent all damage for a certain time, Increase Firepower, Remove debuffs and increase Engine speed. It makes it so that they don't get their able to survive in combat until the mid to late game, which is good because when they are destroyed you lose the game.

Right now they just the stock ships with the stock abilities that are flagged as the Flagship. I was hoping they would retain those abilities and get back their base hit point increases. Right now they are fairly close to useless for some factions (Federation) and very good for others (Romulans).

Has the Flagship Victory game mode been adjusted yet? I took a brief look at it when I downloaded 1.2 and I didn't notice any differences in ship abilities but the hit points might have changed.

Before I started using my webcam when streaming STA3, I used a .jpg of Riker and his crazy 'the federation is gone, the borg are everywhere!' beard over the viewer in the center of the toolbar.

I just couldn't help myself, it was too funny having that image when you're playing as the Borg.

My personal belief is the Cardassian Unionists. Their turrets are powerful, their ships have heavy armor, and their Dreadnought is very much an Area Control Dreadnought. Granted, they lose out against Culture heavy empires but outside of that they are good on defense.

Personally, I'd love a complete breakdown of all the abilities and how they work. Listing them is okay but I'd like to know what Janeway's sensor ability actually does in game. Also, break down how abilities change when you go from Rank 1 to Rank 4.

Speaking of sound, what's the best way to change the format of the sound files (specifically an MP3)? I'd like to turn "Glory to you, and your House" into a text tone.

You probably would not have liked Star Trek: Birth of the Federation then. The Borg were among the random events. ONE CUBE could destroy an entire civilization. Even at end game with everything upgraded they were still a nightmare.

I'm sorry to hear that you had bad luck with the bioships but it does happen. I lost quite a few good games to Borg playing BotF but it always kept me on my toes. It's an experience I'll never forget. Perhaps the RNG will be more kind to you next game?

AverageCitizen - - 30 comments @ Armada 3 - State of the Mod - Feb 2015 - Patch 1.2?

If the Devs do change the Flagship meshes to update the mode here's my suggestions:
Federation: Nebula or Sovereign (Both have advanced technology)
Klingons: Neg'Var (they've already got increased impulse speed)
Romulans: Shadow or Valdore
Cardassian/Dominion: Keldon (the DS9 Episode "Defiant" does show the Obsidian Order modifying them with increased speed)
Borg: Tactical Sphere or Diamond (assimilation of Armor Tech during "Endgame")

Are there going to be any changes to the victory type Flagship Victory? I know stock Sins have each of those capitals very unique and powerful abilities so they could survive even into the late game. It just scares me ever so slightly to send out my Galaxy Class in the mid game knowing that any engine disable pretty much causes me to lose.
How exactly did that work in terms of code? would it be possible to graft abilities from other ships into that flagship and still make it relatively balanced?

What is the research focused AI supposed to do exactly? I was playing Klingons (me) + Romulans + Cardassians (who chose Loyalist) + Federation VS. 5 Borg AI. The Borg AI closest to me only took four worlds and had a tactical sphere. That was it. I saved last night with a small fleet (1 vorcha, Kurn, 1 Ravenous, 7 Chu'Beh, 6 Birds of Prey) right next to their homeworld. No retaliation or reinforcements. I'm about 90 minutes into the game so I know they should have more than that. I know the rest of the AI seem to do their job but I have no clue what causes the Research Focused AI to stop working. Maybe they assimilated Neelix and forgot how to function properly?

Oh that's beautiful! I'm guessing this is the offensive titan and the other titan will be the defensive kind? Is there a wiki for this class of ship? I haven't played STO in a few years so I'm not up to date with all the ships.

Also, are there plans for the Romulans having a 2nd Dreadnought? I don't think the Borg need a Tactical Fusion Dodecahedron (or Cube) but I know the Klingons have two and now the Federation have a 2nd one.

I, for one, would definitely be happy if someone were to make a Babylon 5 mod for Sins.

I think they might need a recovery time after this game. Still, I would definitely put my vote for having this dev team consult with another dev team to help make a B5 mod.

I remember those nights. My friends and I (three of us total) spent several hours trying to halt the Borg advance. They were nearly unstoppable. It wasn't their power, it was their sheer numbers. I would destroy one sphere and three more ships would take its place. Not to mention the assimilation of some of my ships.
It was even more epic because we were all playing Federation...it was like Wolf 359 or the Federation mission 'Line in the Sand' on Star Trek Armada 1.

Maybe on one of my Twitch livestreams we'll be able to see it again!

Aw well for them!

Are there any places to pick up some good ST related maps? I noticed a few in game but I'm sure there are many more out there my friends and I could use.

I think the Premonition would be an awesome 'Capture the Flag' game type.

It would be extremely powerful (Temporal Shields, 2xth Century Armor Plating, Multi-adaptive Weapons Array, Enhanced propulsion tech) and the goal would be to board it and escort it back to your home world. Since it's a ship, it could roam around to non-owned worlds, stars, maybe even pirate worlds. Every faction would have a reason to try and grab the timeship: Federation for the Prime Directive, Klingons would see it as a powerful weapon, Romulans would want the advanced technology, Borg want to add its distinctiveness to the collective, Cardassians would use it to taunt the Federation + create illegal temporal weapons...for peaceful purposes.

For in game logistics, If you destroyed it, another would spawn in the system under your command...for factions who can't easily board ships.

It was definitely a game changer having to dodge around Borg Cubes rather than face them head on as the Romulans. I do have a bit of a minor complaint: After borg assimilate a ship, it gets full hull and shields back. Can't we just have it get to say 75%-80% hull and 25% shields? It's kind of rare that the borg take over a ship without prepping for its assimilation makeover by punching some holes in it.
