Just found this today, looks great, totally following! I just have one question and I apologize if this has already been addressed: A while ago there was a mod for skyrim called "Middle Earth Role Playing Project" that essentially did everything your mod is doing, except of course revolving around The Lord of the Rings and was eventually shut down, not only to a cease and desist, but because it was virtually not possible for skyrim to contain and run the mod because of its size. Are you guys doing anything differently? Cheers!

I know it's been said before about the total war games after empire being extremely difficult to mod completely. However, today was the release of the steam workshop and mod manager for Rome 2 Total War. So do you guys think it's now possible to start work on a Third Age Total War for RTW 2?

I haven't been on in a while so I apologize if this has already been answered, but is this mod still under the C&D since WB has been sued by Tolkien for their games? Or is the mod still in development or has anything really changed? I'm still following you guys 100%!

Good luck with the talks with WB! Hopefully you guys can come to some kind of compromise about this. It would be a shame if they shut it down even with 20,000 supporters. Anyways, I hope this mod continues as I have extremely high hopes for this mod. Best wishes for the MERP team!

I thought they didn't have rights to the books themselves?

They have a right to release a C&D on anyone right? But do they really have the right to close down the mod over rights they don't have? My opinion is to work on the mod either way but I also want you guys to be safe with WB too so I don't know...this really sucks.

Hey MERP and all fans! Any new word from WB yet? Or has there been any progress with the mod?

I check this page daily for updates. Even more so since the damn C&D letter sent from the evil company of WB. This, to me, is the best mod that has ever been created. And today, I come to moddb to see "save MERP" on the front page of the site. It was truly amazing to see that. A tremendous amount of hope was brought to me from seeing that. We will win, lads! We will win!

I don't necessarily think that WB can do anything. They can send Cease and Desist letters for whatever reason (or no reason, a good example of no reason is the sending of a letter to this mod) but I don't think an action can really be carried out to sue the devs, especially if they are scattered. I think it's more of a scare tactic than anything, because I bet that even WB knows they have nothing on this project. They don't even have copyright of the books! (correct me if I'm wrong on that, but I'm pretty sure they don't.) I know it may not be smart, but I would continue with the creation of this mod...but hey that's just me.

I'm starting to worry about this. Not that there is anything wrong, I'm talking about running the mod. If we can run Skyrim pretty well on its medium settings, could my pc run this mod?

Patience, friend. Once it releases, it would be better than it would've been if you got a new screenshot everyday. Because everything will be new and exciting and nothing generally spoiled. It creates more of an experience than a simple play through.

There actually is a mod for Skyrim that lets you build a camp with a campfire along with a pot to cook food. I wouldn't doubt it being in MERP, but it's really what the creators want. Whatever they do give us though, I'm sure it will be so amazing that you will completely forget about your questions. :D

Would it be possible to gain control of the One Ring in free play mode?

How unique will the character customization be? You guy's won't have the same styles for characters of different races like Skyrim had, right? It always annoyed me that you choose a different race, yet their are always the same hair styles, scars, facial hair, height, etc.

I agree. I also think, if this idea was ever released, that it would be at the very end. I mean after they release all of the parts (Rohan, Mirkwood, Gondor etc.).

I know that playing as an Orc or Uruk is a definite no for you guys, but I still think it would be fun to have the choice to play as them. I realize that they are bound to the will of Sauron and can do nothing at all with their lives other than what their masters want, but I think that would still be fun and it would provide a new experience for the players. Maybe add that in as a final addition? I don't know. But I think having that kind of life would be very fun for all players. It would create such a different atmosphere for us that we don't know of, creating a new experience. Along with having relationships with your races and fighting orcs or urks (similar to the brawl between the two at cirith ungol) and maybe receive punishments such as being whipped, etc. Even participating at the Hornburg, Siege of Minas Tirith, or maybe hunting the fellowship at Amon Hen and perhaps able to change the outcome of the battles, like a "what if" scenario. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I think it would be fun and amazing, regardless if we're free or not.

Saw your post about a regular news blog. Have you guys created a plan for that yet? All of us are dying for news and updates here!

I don't think so; of course those types of weapons and armor will be available, but for you to actually wear the armor itself might not be included. It may be restricted for that race specifically. You don't want your own mates thinking you're the enemy lol. I believe this question as been answered before, though, perhaps I'm wrong.

Whoever that is that does your art is a talented artist. Can't wait to see that camp in game :)

When playing as a rohirrim, what will happen when Grima starts to corrupt and secretly kill Theoden? Will there be some kind of quest towards that or maybe get banished like Eomer was?

He's right. Even if you cut out a small second of a song, it's technically legal since it's not the original song.
