Post news Report RSS Recruits progress catchup - Free Desura Keys

We just wanted to updated everyone on the coming week and spread the word about IndieDB's Top 100!... and give out some free Desura keys.

Posted by on

Hey all! First things first, Top 100 IndieDB thingy has came around quick this year! Give us you vote, it doesn't take long and it really helps us get Recruits out there for everyone to see!

Free Desura Keys

So... Would like me to send you a free Desura key for Recruits? Which will give you access to the alpha and all the future updates of the game + the full game once it is release.

Leave a comment below telling us what you like most about our development updates, our game, our videos...anything Recruits related, and i'll pick 10 of the best comments to send keys too. (if we make 10 comments :P)

Demo progress update

We have achieved a lot in the past year and a half, and now we feel is the time to release a demo for people to try before they lay down their hard earned money to support the development. We think that there are a few people out there who are interested in Recruits but don't want to put money down until they know its worth it.
So in saying that, we have been talking about a demo release for the past couple of weeks and I'm here to tell you that it is pretty much done! We have all of our code ready and we are doing some final polish on the 2 demo levels we are including.

In the Demo:
The demo is a 'simpler' version of the alpha. It will play the same gameplay wise, but wont include all the latest features we are working on and you wont receive any regular updates.

Stick with us while we do this and keep an eye out for this demo if you haven't purchased the alpha yet. The demo will give you a good feel for what Recruits is and how it plays and feels.

If you haven't seen our VFX guys latest FX (Napalm Strike) take a look at it below and check out his website: Klemen Lozar

Vote for us to get in the Top 100

'If we make ten comments' Really man? You underestimate the ripples and followers this game has garnered, I for one am still hoping for more videos, I love the carnage and fire... and did I mention fire? I love fire. If you Haven't noticed... I'm kind of a pyro... Heh, I think this has turned into a rant, not a comment xD

Recruits looks completely bad-***. It's got all the right elements for a solid, exciting and fun top down shooter. With it's graphics, the audio, you can almost taste the heat of the napalm on the air. Cannot wait for this to get released with a 1.0 on the end of it.

Recruits for Indie of the Year 2012! Or we'll napalm your other votes!

Well, I didn't buy the game because I really don't use desura that much but I suppose I should give it a try. Well, the things that most impress me are the effects and the gameplay mechanics that you are using, also I love third person shooters since most of the time they have better graphics, gameplay mechanics and you have more awareness. Also the graphics are pretty good. And Recruits seens to have a lot of potential since all those videos show the alpha version. If a game that is in the alpha already looks like that, then I can't wait to see how is the released version going to be like!

I want one of the keys because I like that type of Third person /strategic shooter and it looks like very much fun to play.

I like the fact that it's something new, that it's not like 90% of the games out there today. It's unique, with a really cool concept.

Didn't played Recruits yet. I discovered the game a couple of days ago through a Youtube Channel. I found its retro concept really interesting and well executed. Maybe this isn't a good reason for winning a key, anyway gotta thank you guys for this opportunity. (:

I like it because it has kinda a "original" old-school gameplay, there are not much of this kind of games these day. Also I like the theme, and I loved the models. I'm really looking forward.
And who doesnt like explosions, fire and blood ? :D

What I love the most about Recruits development updates is that there is so much change that happens between them. At times, I find it hard to believe that this is a simple top-down indie game. I remember the first update I saw several months ago there were just infantry running around shooting, but now there are vehicle segments, an actual order system for your squadmates, and chicken AI (can't leave that one out :)). These updates make me excited for the final product, and I am very excited for what you guys have to offer..

Wow that napalm attack looks fantastic! Great graphics, but the strategic element is the best thing, as there are way too many point and shooters out there already

Why do I love Recruits? It is simple: potential. I see SOOOO much potential in this game for all kinds of varying gameplay. On top of that, no one is making top-down shooters anymore, except for Recruits. I also, personally, really enjoy the frequent updates and all the behind the scenes stuff we get to see; it's like we can see the development of the game!

The best thing is the constant updates and how you try not to over extend and instead keep it in small and manageable parts.

I just started watching this but after looking at some of your updates I just had to vote this for ioty I really enjoy top down shooters some of my best memories come from them (Alien Swarm which I read you were inspired by for example is amazing.) The graphics look great, the game play looks great, everything I've seen up to this point just looks great, also props on the fire reminds me of Far Cry 2 and man fire had never been better past that point. Good luck in the ioty

I mostly like that it's a top down shooter. I'm a bit tired of FPS Brownwashed Manshoots.

Also, it has Napalm, and I love the smell of that in the morning.

What I like the most of recruits it´s the simplicity of the action and violence. Sometimes you just need some action without complex history. That´s Recruits.

What I like the most about recruits is the fact that as an indie game you seem to have a AAA feel to your pictures and videos, and that your releases are regular and give a ton of info on the game. And the fact that you have tanks. Tanks are always good.

The development updates i like the most are those that plunge into everything game dev related, maybe because i'm also in the process of making a game. I loved the technical updates (it was very interesting to read about the AI system developed for Recruits) and if i have an advice for you (relating to development updates) that would be to include more and don't be shy about getting technical :)

Other than that, i wish you good luck with Recruits. It looks like a labor of love and i hope you make in on Steam.

Wow that is alot of comments.
I've been following Recruits since the first video update, even applied to be part of the awesome team but dropped due to you already having someone to fill the role, but the quality of content you guys have been putting out within both the game and marketting aspects has been very high and I keep on telling myself why haven't I put money into this game yet? This would be the perfect opportunity to see the amount of work you guys have put in first hand for a long time follower, and I could potentially even do LP videos on my second YT channel to try and help promote the game even further.
Congrats on where you guys are and I hope that this love of yours has been proven worth it!

What I most like of this game updates is how it show us not to believe in stereotypes. ¿Top-down view strategy game? Yes, but with tons of action, explosions and rythm. ¿UDK is only for FPS? ¿Indie games cant look like AAA games? In this action-strategy game we found incredible graphics, sound and ideas. The game is even before final release, very, very polished. Time of the day, details - like animals -, lights, etc. ¿Indie games have slow development stages? This game is advancing rapidly at a steady pace.

What I most like about the game so far? It's originality. It's fresh! I haven't seen a good top-down side perspective RTS like this in a LONG time, like since 2000! I've always enjoyed these kind of games because not only do they give you a perspective from a 3rd person view, but they allow you to see all the action from a distance, as if you were watching the story be played out by someone else in front of your eyes. I can see that your team has put a GREAT DEAL of effort into making this game and as Indie developers to boot. It's certainly not an easy task, but I'm sure the fruits of your endeavour will ripen soon! I look forward to playing your game and future games to come!
