This group is for everyone who like tanks, sci-fi tanks, real tanks, funny tanks, you can put here tank mods, tank maps, simply everything with straps, armor and gun :D
the tank was just a project, it never was built, imagine if it did, all of us will prob speaking german and hailing hitler or one of his sons or something
This tank was close to be created. Simply at last year of war creation was ceased. Towers for example were created and even, allegedly, were placed in Normandy. All remaining was disassembled.
And, of course, creation of this tank wouldn't mean a doom to other countries. After nazies were wiped out in Moscow battle this tank could change nothing. 5 Ratte, 10 Ratte, even 30 Ratte, it doesn't matter, wouldn't prevent defeat of the Reich.
yeah and the ratte may be Extremely slow, may have to be lightly armored, and may easily sink to the ground making it easy target for bombers, and it would take very long time for the main turret to turn, and 50 tigers could easily destroy that thing.
It was not so bad. Speed - 40 km/h. Was able to move underwater. Invulnerable for tanks and artillery. 8 AA guns, but vulnerable for aircraft only. Main cannons are from german ships. It just appeared in wrong times and in wrong place.
this thing looks cool and all but it is completely impractical. it would nave have been built period and if it had been built somehow it would have been a sitting duck for any fighter/bomber in the area. its a huge target and its foolish to think that it would have been armored heavily enough over the entire hull to stop it from being damaged.
I would say that it is rather groundless statement.
Especially..."it would have been a sitting duck for any fighter/bomber in the area. its a huge target and its foolish to think that it would have been armored heavily enough..."
To place it in 2 words I'll just say next thing: following your logic all countries should immediately break into scrap ALL giant battle ships, transports, corvettes, etc, because they are veeery big and veeery easy targets for aircraft and artillery and to replace them with pigmy boats.
The "size" is the LAST thing which can be considered as a disadvantage of such tanks.
Lol only destroyable by aircraft.
Well and in what did the allies kick Germany's ***?
Bombing and air sovereignty!?!
scrap these tons of metal if you can't move it quick enough!
Lawl It's so funny how some people are still trying to figure out what this thing could be used for or whether it would be effective at some point or a complete failure etc. Guys guys, the Ratte was DENIED (refused) by German generals already, it is a official fact that this thing would never have been built in ww2. So pls stop "implying" that the Germans were insane enough to seriously built it, they never would. The German high staff really weren't that stupid. Remember, only Hitler dreamed of such weapons. German generals wanted more of Panthers and Hetzers instead... They worked for the wrong leader.
How many Tiger tanks can find room inside one Ratte tank?
Haha good question!
I would guess a platoon's worth if not stacked on top of each other.
And awesome pic!
yeah it's a great pic!! just look at how majestic that hell of a nightmare is.
COOL!
OMG *shock* *horror*
this tank existed,or is just a project?

I think making huge tanks practically useless and also financial nightmare. I doubt it.
To produce 1 Ratte = to produce 50 Tigers.

then the only way to make it a sitting duck is for the tanks to destroy the treads.
