The weapons felt natural in his hands, even though he used these ancient weapons twice or three times tops. Parguur, the bow was light and swift, not quite a shortbow and not quite a longbow, it will serve well. Ankulos reminded him of Tremor just because of the curved blades, but if he would be able to use a curved double-bladed staff remained to be seen.

Finally Ori'verda tuned his attention to the Crusader beskar'gam replica that was provided for this event. There were no nicknames for it like for the bow and staff, they were not needed. It felt different from the regular beskar'gam he had gotten used to. Made primarily out of bone, fur and leather it still provided a mediocre sense of safety. After all, the ancient Crusaders used to wear these as the rode their Basilisk War Droids into battle.

Ori'verda sat in the lounge with the other hunters, he eyed them trying to get a sense of each and every one of them in case he needed to fight them. The problem was there were other lounges and everyone would be dropped by shuttle at random locations, possible a continent away.

Still, it paid to be cautious.

He tried to comfort himself that the mythosaur axe which he held in his hands wouldn't be so different from his own warhammer.
He swung it again and frowned when he had trouble keeping it in balance.
After all these years of working with beskar, he knew he'd have to adjust a bit.. still any metal would do fine but the ppl behind this event even went as far as using real mythosaur bones.

He looked at the bevii'ragir he recieved as well, the bronzium end was sturdy enough but it wouldn't take long to dull out. At least he was smart enough to take a whetstone with him. He also packed some of his custom made throwing knifes, based on ancient designs they were small but had a good balance & were made with beskar. At least that would comfort him a bit. Lastly he got handed out some sort of archaïc blaster pistol. "A mandalorian flashpistol" they called it and sadly they got the design completely right. He read about it in some archives, it was widely used by crusaders. Sadly these aren't the crusader days, and a crude oversized projectile weapon is doubtfully a decent fall back weapon.

He almost had a stroke when they handed him his beskar'gam if you can still call it that. the dull luster gave away that it would be the good old mandalorian bone-leather-fur combination. It sacrificed protection for agility & a badass look... but he wasn't exactly known for his quickness anyway.

Some of his doubts washed away when he wass fully arm(or)ed up, it just felt right somehow... "You know what they say; Mishuk gotal'u meshuroke, pako kyore. Why not go the hard way and get that sweet reward." He said to himself with a grin.

He stretched himself out, he was larger & bulkier than most, but it's the little ones you have to look out for, he scanned the lounge and saw a lot more crusader armors than he expected.. "Or they might just **** with us and give those out to anyone."

Part 1/2.

OOC: To anyone who wants to join -> feel free to randomly join/pop in later, except if it means you plan on killing the victor and then stealing his prize xD... >:(.

There were all kinds of people of all kinds of species. Mandalorians, wannabe tough guys and actual tough guys. Next to him sat a scroungy looking man with the worries of the galaxy in his eyes, Ori'verda read him and directly discovered that this man had to win in order to pay for his daughter's operation. Of course he read more then just the man, but also his datapad.

On his other side was a female Togrutan bounty hunter that looked like she was ready to split skulls, this he read because she was actually splitting skulls and creating a makeshift weapon out of it. Oddly enough it reminded him of Corden.

Finally all competitors were loaded onto a shuttle. The first wave of hunters was being dropped, literally, pushed out of the shuttle and forced to use whatever means to break their fall. In the distance Ori'verda saw a hunter use his jetpack to land and another warrior was captured by Drexl before he even touched the ground.

For himself he looked on and tried to pick a soft looking tree to crash on. He collided with a large tree branch and broke it, falling through a series of branches, leaves and wood until he finally grabbed a hold of a solid piece and stopped his descent.

Part 2/2.

Below him was a large pack of Cannocks who had awoken from their slumber and now waited for Ori'verda to fall into their jaws. He hoisted himself up on the arm of the tree and sat on it, pulling out Parguur and aiming one of the few arrows he had been given at one of the six Cannocks who seemed alarmed by this and were jumping all over the place.

When the arrow was released at one such jumpy Cannock, all it did was pierce his paw as it jumped backwards. The other Cannock ran away and Ori'verda jumped off the tree with Ankulos in hand, piercing the skull of the wounded Cannock and killing it instantly.

The Great Hunt is to be won when a hunter returns to a basecamp with a great trophy kill. (Because IDK what TOR' version of the hunt is and this is a bit cooler) The vermin Cannock however, would do nothing to get him victory. Unless he brought back a million Cannock skulls.

OOC: At this point I'll be rolling a dice, one number is for each of the six most common creatures of Dxun. Then I roll again which will determine how many of the Dxun animals you face.

orthanec looked down at the weapons he was given, as well as his armor. this wasn't the sort of equipment he was used to, but the hutt he worked for convinced him he would gain fame and glory if he was entered and sponsored by the hutt, but now he was beginning to think that the hutt only cared about glory for himself. still, he took comfort in the fact that everyone else has the same sort of equipment, so he wasn't at a massive disadvantage. he decided to use the armor for extra reward

he was went into one of the shuttles and waited to land. inside it was full of people who looked like cold blooded killers, which didn't surprise him, this competition would be bloody, and only the strongest would survive.

he felt the shuttle had landed and left on his own, he preferred to work alone.

The crusader armor absorbed most of the impact force. He tried to look out for a safe spot hang onto and descend afterwards, but in order to keep ahead on most others. he stopt scanning the area and leapt into the unknown.

He fell hard on a giant branch, not even two men of corden's size would be able to envelop this tree's giant branches let alone it's trunk. The crusader armor was more resilient than he tought, the fall damage wasn't severe.

He scanned the area underneath the tree. Much of the smaller vegetation was snapped & broken, as if a speeder ran over it. Given the size of the tracks he suspected some bomas passed there, and given the fresh odorous dung next to it, they couldn't be far away.

He snuck out of the three, hoping at least one of them has reached their legendary size. Most were pretty small but mandalorian hunting records indicated that most groups's alpha males were of a much bigger size than it's kin.

He followed the tracks to the north, his bevii'ragir out and ready. He moved his other weaponery around to be easily accesible, especially the axe. He figured that he might throw or lose his spear in the process.

the forest quickly thinned out and the trails ran towards some sort of small caved in well. In the distance he could see two bomas running around and a third one was sleeping, or so he thought. It was hard to see everything.

Upon arriving closer by he saw a fourth silhouette.. a person, another hunter probably.. He could now see that the sleeping boma was put to rest by, presumably, that dude's spear. The greyish metallic look seemed to be inspired by imperial design, it stuck out just above the eyes & that must be a handy weakspot to remember.

Corden could look further for prey or face this hunter and the bomas. He'd have to be quick so he could slay the other boma himself. he took no interested in stealing someone else's trophy.

He reached for his goorar kal, the other hunter was still too far away to get a decent throw on him. but he seemed preoccupied with gettin his spear loose to get the other bomas at the well. (the dead one's more to the jungle, the other ones are further away to the caved in well.)

Corden took his chance and ran forward. the unknown hunter was startled when he saw a mandalorian crusader sprinting out the woods. He tried to get out his spear but in vain. Corden reached for his goorar kal about 30 metres from the other when a laser shot hit his crusader beskar'gam.

The hunter had the reflex to grab for his holdout pistol. Given the nature of such guns, he only hit Corden on his shoulder pad aside from the strong burned feathers smell he had nothing.

The other hunter was surprised to see Corden advance still, he aimed his pistol again.. but corden knew his sidearm more than his competitor. It was of onderonian design, very compact, light and hard to trace but it had one tiny energy cell for one shot only. He pulled the trigger and only a dry "click" sound ensued.

He probably bought it last minute on onderon before going to dxun, Corden assesed his opponent as the latter drew his sword. He was small, thin and presumably quite clever if he managed to take that boma down on his own. Still his fighting stance revealed his inept sword skills and anxiety. Corden was reluctant to fight him, he'd gain no honor from a beating down a youngster..

"Never trust an Onderonian merchant kid."
He was surprised to hear him speak, he put all his focus on the duel & seemed ready to... die even. This amused Corden.

"That boma's yours beroy'ika, take pride in it & maybe i'll see you at the end."

With one pull Corden pulled out the metal spear and threw it to the other. Though he had to admit it was stuck pretty deap in it's skull.
Corden ran forward & sought out the biggest one, he was lucky that the alpha male was present but he'd have to go trough the other boma first.

*After a while the Hunter found himself in a clearing, if you could call it that, only a very faint light made it to the middle. However here the air was fresher and the jungle less dense. As he was taking a moment to pause in his hunt, the hunt found him. Creatures were making noises on the edges of the clearing, subtle growling noises from several directions. It indicated a pack, communicating with each other and closing in on their prey.

The hunter moved to the middle of the clearing and prepared an arrow for his bow. He waited patiently for the beats to reveal themselves, yet they did not come. Suddenly the noises came from near him, he turned and looked, but nothing was there. He was not familiar with the beasts on this moon and for a moment he was confused, he did not know that these beasts was the Malraas. The beasts sensed his confusion and attack. As they came near the light the hunter could see shaped, almost invisible coming towards him. He let an arrow slip and hits one of the beasts, however another jumps him from behind and goes for his neck, he barely manages to drop his bow and get his left arm in front of him as the beast bites into it. He manages to draw his sword and plunged it into the side of its neck.

As the second beast drops dead, he pulls himself over to a tree and look around for more. He only now notices a sharp pain from his arm, the wrist armor was broken and he was bleeding heavily. A third smells the blood and attacks in a frenzy and as it charges, the hunter puts the handle of the sword back against the tree and the tip pointing out towards the charging beast. As it goes for his neck, it pierces itself against the sword which breaks in two from the collision.

The hunter is momentarily trapped beneath the beast, but pulls himself up and begins patching up his wounds. He would rather be the hunter than the hunted, so he finished the treatment of his woulds with a layer of dirt and mud to conceal some of the smell.

He picks op his fractured sword, half of it being broken off, his bow and tokens from the beast that he had slain and continued the hunt*

The dangerous jungles of Onderon's closest moon, Dxun, were filled with all kinds of ancient secrets to add to the ferocious host of beasts. From Sith Tombs filled with dark spirits, to Mandalorian bunkers still manned by war droids and bombs.

But Ori'verda did not fear the animals nor the ancient secrets, it was the recently created war wounds. He left the jungle into a very open and spacious area filled with ruins, the ruins of a smouldering base. Specifically, the one that was under his command.

Two worthless Cannock were desecrating the mangled, half-eaten corpses of a few Mandalorian soldiers. Without hesitation Ori'verda pulled an arrow from his quiver, notched it on his bow and launched it directly towards the paw of one Cannock. It shrieked and the other ran.

The injured Cannock met a cruel fate at the tip of Ankulos.

After avenging his brothers, he decided on a break and let memories from the war come back and lay the past to rest.

A blast of violent red contrasted with the green muddy water of the jungle well, the red color soon thinned but didn't disappear.
Corden slew the Boma closest to the well and had to take care of the alpha male further down before he'd move on.

He would cut of some tokens afterwards, it'd be too dangerous to leave the other boma unchecked. He grabbed his spear and pulled it out from the carcas's head, the boy's technique proved efficient but Corden's accuracy with this mediocre spear wasn't that great..

He ran towards the other boma, knowing Boma's weren't aggresive by default so he'd take advantage of that, about 50 metres from his target, corden climbed into a small tree. He held his spear and aimed for the boma's head. When the creature turned his way, he took his shot.
After a mighty throw the spear crossed the distance in a matter of seconds and hit the target... in it's left leg.

Corden cursed as the infuriated boma charged towards him, Corden stayed still in the tree waiting for the boma to hit the tree.
Sadly for him, the giant male adult had such brute force that he uprooted the whole tree in his charge attack. Corden barely kept his balance & jumped of the branch he was seated on, onto the big beast.

He grabbed on of the horns on his neck & drove his spear into his neck, the beast stopped brusque and corden fell overhead in front of it.
In pain, the boma tried to squash the assailant but corden had the mandalorian flashpistol ready and shot the beast in the eye.

The raw beam pulverized his face and left a gruesome black hole where his left eye was. Soon after Corden ended the beast's pain with his axe.
After collecting tokens fo both beasts & cleaning his weapons he headed out west.

*The Hunter comes into a region of the jungle where the tress are less dense, with several clearings. Scattered around this place was several large stone and rock formations, giving the impression that the rocks themselves where the remnants of a giant beast, violently scattered across the area in its last brave fight for survival.

On one of the cliffs the Hunter spots something, a large beast with a huge wingspan. Its sheer size reminded him of the Krayt Dragons he had seen on distant worlds in the Outer Rim. It rested upon the top of the cliff, silently and confidently. A creature of this size and capable flight had few enemies, if any besides other members of its species.

The Hunter crawled closer until he was within range. He placed himself in cover of a rock and prepared an arrow. His heart was pumping, he knew this would be no easy beast to defeat. He took aim for one of the beast's eyes and loosened. The arrow hit its mark and the beast woke from its slumber roaring. He took aim once again, fired and hit another eye, making it blind to certain angles.

As he prepared a third arrow, he heard a strange sound going *Dunk*... *Dunk*... From behind the cliff and the large beast, rose two more of them, having hidden in the shade of the cliff and now taking flight. They were not as large as the first one, but they were big enough.

He now took cover behind rocks again and tried to figure out his next move.*

=СРБ=Ori`verda Sep 10 2013, 2:33am says:

StarVipers shrieked past, dropping proton shockwave bombs, ripping apart the palisades and cracking open the fortified walls. Sending the warriors out of the trenches sky high along with mud and jungle wood.

The battleline was reformed as men, droid and tank rushed out of bomb shelters. Just as the gaps were filled a series of Kom'rk's landed some distance from the base, dropping off Canderous tanks and Shock Troopers. From the sky yet more Shock Troopers descended upon the base like locusts.

Anti-air and anti-infantry turrets overheated instantly, ran out of ammo or jammed because of the constant moonsoon. Hand-to-hand ensued, blaster skirmishing with the opposing battleline occurred just as Canderous tanks tried to break their deadlock with superior manoeuvres and precision strikes.

As the Shock Troopers were beaten back, another group of StarVipers came in and the process repeated itself, occasionally broken up by a missile strike from nearby Missile Attack Launchers.

This senseless brother against brother killing ended as the nine remaining warriors were finally captured by the Shock Troopers.

Then came roars. Hungry, beast-like and familiar. He opened his eyes and saw a group of six Cannocks, the one who fled some time ago must have gotten his friends so that it could avenge the one Ori'verda killed earlier.

Some fortress walls still stood, he climbed on them and started to easily pick off the jolting Cannocks that tried to follow or evade arrows. His arrows ran out. But three more remained, Ori'verda grabbed Ankulos and dove into combat, killing yet one more Cannock.

The two others bounced back, making space for a charge. Ankulos was buried deep in the Cannock so Ori'verda left it and evaded the one of the charging beasts, grabbing the other one by his spine-hump, lifting and tossing it towards the other animal. If only this fight took place on an old battlefield where he could conveniently pick up some weapons.

not long after he heard what sounded like an animal scream, then he felt the gound shake, as if something heavy was approaching. he saw a massive armored beast walk up to him holding a malraas in its jaw. upon seeing orthanec, and the dead malraas around him it became enraged that something new was hunting prey that rightfully belonged to it. it charged him and he only just had time to duck out of the way. he fired at the zakkeg with his blaster but it seemed to be barely effective, serving only to annoy the beast. orthanec sighed as the battle began.

By heading out west, the forest thickened again the trees heightened and the giant plants obstructed his view. He realised that the bomas he just slew were only a small pack and prolly part of a larger herd, if he'd follow the tracks he would encounter some for sure.

"Some" would be considered an understatement when he saw the herd. He saw 3 infants and 3 adult bomas albeit it a bit smaller than the previous ones. The ones he killed at the well must've been the males.
He grabbed his spear in his left, and axe in his right arm. The bomas were grazing in a more open & smaller circular grassy plane amidst the jungle.

He aimed for the closest adult and after a short throw he hit it succesfully between the eyes. The beast roared in pain is it fell trough it's knees, blood gushed out of it's nostrils. Her two little infants panicked and the other adults were alerted. They positioned themselves in front of the infants like a massive wall of though green hide.

Corden already held his axe with both hands, trying to get it's balance right. The bomas seemed reluctant to charge so he'd make them.
He angered the first one by taking a potshot at it with his flashpistol. Corden stood ready as it charged towards him. When the beast got too close for comfort he dash-rolled to the left, the beast's right horn did hit him though, the beast couldn't evade the tree in front of it and banged against it. Corden didn't wait for it to recover and sliced trough it's front left leg.

It collapsed & Corden only had to finsh the job. He felt a sharp pain in his right shoulder as he slit the beast's troat. The leather under his shoulder pad had a dark red color. "Haar'chak, i'll bandage that later.."

To get the next one done quicker, he decided to use his goorar kal. he readied one knife and equipped the others in a open pocket on the side of his beskar'gam. The first knife he threw wasn't accurate enough and pierced the boma's chest, presumably it perforated one of her lungs.
Breathing heavily she didn't charge but rather tried to flee with the two infants.

At first she managed to outrun Corden, but He found her eventually a few miles further in, wounded and tired. She tried to put up a fight but his bevii'ragir silenced her, and her infants, forever.
He took their tokens & his knife back and left their carcasses for the canocks.

carefully he climbed in a tree and took of his shoulder plate. He shuddered heavily upon removing the leather. The wound didn't go too deep but the more he'd use his right arm, the worser it would get. He soaked his bandages with mandoa narcolethe and clenched his teeth as the potent alcohol drink did it's work. Afterwards he bandaged the cleaned wound.

*The Hunter took off some of his bloody bandages and wrapped them around a little rock. He threw the rock away from himself, hoping that the beasts would catch the scent.

He looked slowly over the edge and cursed, only one of them had followed, one of the smaller ones. As it flew away he rose and targeted it in flight, once again aiming for the eyes, but the moving target proved to difficult for him, he was a marksman with a blaster, not a bow. The arrow missed and hit the neck instead, serving only to enrage the beast. He changed target and aimed for the other small beast now sitting next to the large one of them. The arrow hits it in the eye and it flies away. The larger one is confused as the smaller one panics near it for a moment and the Hunter see's his chance.

He draws his sword and makes a run for it, the large beasts see him and prepares to lash out against him but misses as he comes close because of the damage to its eyes. As he had hoped, its perception have changed and it has trouble judging the distance. After it misses a second time, the Hunter slash its neck with the broken sword and it backs off as blood pours out.

But before he can celebrate his victory, the other two emerges and he grasped by the jaws of one of them. Luckily his armor somewhat protects him although he isn't counting on it to hold and he still holds his sword in hand. He starts stabbing it frantically in the head everywhere he can until it lets go of him and he drops 10 meters to the ground, breaking a rib.

As the adrenalin rushes through his body he stands up again, the beasts are out of sight, but he suspects them to be back soon and he hides near the body of the beast that he has slain. As he takes a moments pause, he also cuts out a teeth from the mouth of the beast, as proof. However, he don't intend to stay for the other beasts. He knows well how to pick his fights.*

Just two more Cannok remained, but Ori'verda was nearly completely unarmed. The beasts picked up on this and prepared to charge in for the kill. One of the animals he evaded, but the other launched him into a broken palisade wall of the old Mandalorian base.

Pinned and being squashed by a Cannok, it would take unconventional methods to beat the Cannok. Looking around whilst his organs were being crushed, he could see a nearby canister of Tihaar and a split malfunctioning blaster. He grabbed the Tihaar, pouring much of it into the maw of the beast.

Violently it released Ori'verda from its death grip to recover from the strange attack. Using this time and noticing the other Cannok getting ready to finish the job, Ori'verda. The nearby blaster showed all the signs of imminent destruction if used, so Ori'verda tossed it towards the charging Cannok. Except the desired explosion effect did not happen.

In a last ditch effort to survive, he took a sip from the Tihaar and threw the canister towards the Cannok. It must have triggered something because a flame sea covered the animal, the other Cannok had apparently died of alcohol poisoning taking care of that problem as well.

Description

The Great Hunt was a competition for glory that originated among the Mandalorians as a test of skill on the jungle moon of Dxun. Over time, the Hunt became an open competition in which any of the galaxy's warriors could compete. A total of three Great Hunts were called during the Great Galactic War, and another three were held during the subsequent Cold War.

Now, aeons later, another Great Hunt is organized. The reward is a large sum of credits, one beskar shards and the title of Huntsmaster.

However, the penalty for defeat, may very well be death. Not only will hunters face the ferocious creatures of Dxun but also other hunters who will mercilessly kill in order to gain an edge.

The Mandalorians who are sponsoring this event, are providing archaic weapons and armor to those who seek a challenge. It is also stated that using this gear will provide you with far a greater reward.
