Some of these could easily fit in a list of 'essential lies of civilization'. I mean by withholding opinions/comments are you not somewhat withholding truth and essentially endorsing a lie?
Basically I'm of the opinion that people (especially those closest to me) deserve to know what I'm thinking even if it might hurt them since I personally would prefer to know what someone's thoughts regarding myself are regardless of how hurtful their comments may be. Sure you can package hurtful comments in a nicer form but personally I'd prefer someone to just say "you're a ******* idiot" (to grab my attention, especially if it's from someone that knows me) and then proceed to explain why that is instead of trying to be subtle/"nice" about it.
