I read a conversation over this.

"But prayer means nothing without correcting the offending behavior. Shouldn't we then, as a republic, seek leaders who try to correct our great national sins?"

"Begins in the heart first."

"Sadly, more than half of this country voted for lawlessness when they voted for corrupt leadership twice and will now vote for it again, they will never vote for good men to correct our national sins, because they love sin and division - I think God is separating the wheat from the tares in our country."

"Church and state should remain separate. But that does not mean church should have zero influence on the state. That would be impossible. Indeed, the republic cannot exist without a moral people. And a moral people will not happen without the church."

Overall, the necessity of God having influence in the state is brought to bear. There have been plenty who've argued with me about about that, in the end their arguments amounted to personal feeling and want, over what's good for the nation as a whole.

It's our job to pray for the country, it's also our job to see to change and be a force for it. Positive change, Godly change. We live in dire times and with corrupt influences everywhere (has that ever really been different?). Doesn't change one's duty in the least.

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

If only!
