Maybe but the crucifixion represents his sacrifice and our salvation. That's what I think of when I see one anyways.

Description

Oh come on! Let us worship and bow down before the Lord, our Maker! Not before what we have created!

Psalm 95:6 "Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!"

I know Psalm 95:6 is referring to worshiping God in general but I think it can be used against those who worship statues, humans and other worldly goods.

Idolatry is on the increase nowadays. People have idols but they just aren't statues anymore. People worship money and if they don't worship money, then they worship celebrities.

Meanwhile there are Christians who would pray to a statue of Christ or to a crucifix which is idolatry itself. To pray to God or Christ, one needn't bow before a statue or other man-made item for God himself is within us and around us.

I myself have a crucifix but only as a symbol for my faith. I do not however regard my crucifix as something containing the power of Christ and nor would I bow before a crucifix thinking it's needed to connect to God because it's not. One can pray to God anywhere and at anytime.
