Are you a 3D artist? Are you looking for some inspiration? Do you just want to collaborate or know who your fellow ModDB artists are? Doesn't matter what application you use or how you do it... if you're a modeller, animator, skinner or looking at getting started with 3D, then this is the group for you!
A crate made out of wood. :P
maybe a bit more texture work but the model looks good :)
try to add some custom elements like a stamp/sticker burned to show the contents of the crate or different planks of wood to denote how it was actually made would help too. Right now, the it looks like you could hold this crate in your hand, and not sure that is the intention, this is prolly due to the scale of the wood texture :/
The texture is much better when not rendered (Don't know Y. :P).
Will do the sticker and that.
BTW The crate is designed to be carried.
with the texture, you really want to make it look like the scale you want to, right now, the wood grain is making the crate look like it can be carried in the palm of your hand. I'm guessing you mean by carried is that it would take 2 hands to get a good grip on it.. As for you saying it looks better when rendered without the texture, that means that alot of bare models can be good, but the texture can ruin them. You might want to find another texture, or it would be best to create one with photoshop if you are good enough.
I'm good with editing in Photoshop, not very good at making stuff. :P
well, if you are good with editing but not creating in photoshop, then you can take an existing wood texture like you've done, then add your own touches to it so that it reflects the object you are making much better. Add stuff like wood cracks, grunge, shadows(or bake an Ambient Occlusion map if you are using unique UV's) etc. This will give the asset a custom look instead of something generic.
THX. :D
