use smoothing groups, since you had time to do a render i suppose 2 minutes wouldnt have killed you? it looks awesome however! :D

Whenever I use smoothing in blender, it just doesn't look right. It messes up the render but I don't know why.

are you suggesting he is to get 3ds max, even if one of the older, just to "auto smooth"?

I have the same problem while trying to smooth, it never looks right unless I'm trying to make organic fantasy type models.

yeah well, smoothing takes practice, since if, on a model like this, you just put everything in the same smooth group, it will look bad, and i mean as bad as if a aligator came and ate it - spat it out and ate it again. you need to plan out which polygons to put in the same smoothing group and which not to, practice makes perfect!
