Description
a fighter prototype produced by the kuat drive yards which has a cockpit based on that of the tie fighters while the "fins" serve as a shield... and as the main engine cooling system... this fighter proved superior to the original TIE and even has the power to easily destroy a rebel blockade runner.
one of my simpler models... since i ran out of ideas (rush modeling this weekend)

I'm all for science fiction design but as long as it's applicable. This design just doesn't seem to fit into any kind designers mind. If i was going to make a space fighters, for one, I would make the design more aerodynamic, I know we're not dealing with air here but in terms of surface area and resistance, that thing might as well be a piece of paper with a thruster.
The other thing, is just look at it. How hard do you think it would be to shoot that thing down?. If it was flying straight towards you, you have a 80% chance of just blind firing and hitting it.
I think this is one of your best models though :)
just want to think through on some of your designs before they leave the drawing table.
Depending of what kind of sci-fi his aiming he must choose his style of design, but, yes. Being logical into logistics and construction is neccesary always.
well, hitting the "fans" does not matter... they are just heat dissipators and as a sort of "missile disruptor" since the heat detector of any missile would go for the heat of the fans.. they would miss the crucial ball cockpit... and the fans are just first-level generators for the craft... it contains it's own generator inside that is more powerful than the fans... all in all... the fans actually make the craft survive, since it reflects laser fire (heat+mirroring) and draws missile fire away from the body(ball cockpit) of the craft.... and also... if the enemy is not smart enough to attack the ball cockpit with lead bullets and fire at the "fans" instead, then they are firing at an expendable decoy. based on starviper and TIE.
To be honest, there's no logic in your design even so, you say too much for too few, your imagination won't work if people who see this think of a fan, if you want to design something, design it for dummies, so they can get it without you explaining, if you have to explain: you FAIL.
Don't be a noob, take what we told you and start getting into some real design and concepts.
