It would look better if you did some peak and valley style modelling on the sides. Or maybe even added a barrel. But its good for 1st try. :P

Not bad for a first try. You really need to separate the sections of your uv unwrap so you don't get stretched sides. That would fix all the non-side views.

More importantly, you need to bevel! Round those edges!

Those are unwrapping techniques. Not sure the naming convention on your modeling tool of choice, but it's stuff you need to know to get better.

yeah, you'll need to do a few more tutorials P:, learn polygonal modeling and such.

what you did is typical of a beginner but 7/8 hours??!? why so long?

thanks! I'm currently working on another model. I'm taking what you've said into account, and it won't just be a block image.

From the side the texture looks very convincing. However grinnock is right, try to round of those edges and make atleast something round so it looks like it has a barrel.
It's not bad for your first model though.

Description

here's a pistol model made in blender... I don't know what the model is, the picture I used didn't say the model, probably glock though. this took me about seven or eight hours to make. it took so long because I'm a newbie at 3d modeling, and had to learn some of the stuff, mainly the texture modelling along the way. I don't know how to make texture maps, I know the unwrapping proccess, but thats it, so I uv wrapped the picture I used to model it onto the model. it looks alright from the top and sides, but the front of the barrel and the front of the handle look awkward. would like critisism on this.
