I'm thinking it to be between x5 to x10, because I don't think that the source engine can handle view-distances longer than that.

Looking sweet! Not sure about the scale of the bricks in the render, haha, but I guess that's not the important bit =].

Its all good except the folding bipod - I'd perhaps add some more detail to it - there's no hinge to collapse them together (only a hinge to collapse them up). Perhaps make it telescopic too? Nothing Major, however!

Yeah, The props are just temporary, they will be replaced. I want to make it telescopic, but I'm not sure that's what the mod manager wants. x5 to x10 zoom is enough I think.

P.S. I realise the bricks are completely out of scale, in fact, my other (white) render looks better (see profile).

3-9 power scopes are popular among target shooters, but 4-12x is more commonly used by the law enforcement and military.

No problem, you may want to make the skin of the scope one that resembles a Leupold MKIV. Since that is the scope most commonly used by snipers alike.

Description

This is the Sniper rifle I modeled for half-life 2 breaking point to replace the crossbow.
This is an early version and no textures are applied yet, those are only base colours. I couldn't think of any other backgrounds so I made a quick reflective metal ground and two walls as a background. The light setup is two area lights with length and width set to 700 with advanced shadows on and final gather set to 1000 points with 2 bounces.

I used 3ds max to make this.
