Report article RSS Feed New Cameras and Target System

New camera modes including follow-cam and target-cam and also a cinematic targeting system, very similar to the one used in the Zelda games.

Posted by AlwaysGeeky on Dec 11th, 2012

Vox has had a camera makeover recently and I have been fine tuning the 3d cameras that are used in the game. I have also added new camera systems that can be used in different situations to make sure that the camera is always facing and directed at the action in game.

Here is a video demonstrating the new camera systems and the new enemy target/lock-on mode:

The target camera is very useful in combat and can be used to make sure that you are always facing and targeting the enemy that you want to fight. When in target mode, the screen renders in a letterbox to give it a more cinematic feel and the player always facing towards the enemy. This allows you to side-jump and dodge attacks as well as attack the enemy easily yourself with your skills and weapons.

There is a follow-cam that you can activate that intelligently rotates the camera as you move so you dont need to rotate it using your mouse (or analog stick). This will help to keep the camera facing the right direction as you are moving around in the world.

Not that I don't appreciat the work you've done here (the game is looking sweet so far), but I must confess I'm no fan of target-lock-on. A 1st-person view would be much better, in my opinion.

yea i kind of agree with Theon here, i mean it was a good idea and i appreciate that you are working on new systems but i think you should take away the lock on system and just make combat more fluent and more fun and a little more skill and fast paced because i think with this kind of system the game might get boring or consecutive, just letting you know. but i love your game so far! you a really doing a good job!

PS
you might want to look at cubeworlds system in combat, its really nice. you can find wollay's blog here (The creator of cubeworlds) Wollay.blogspot.com his game is going out really nicely and you could get a lot from it :D

I disagree with taintedpyro813, a game is an expression of the programmer's mind, I would hate if Vox copied Cube World's design.
Both games are supposed to play differently and I think they really should. I'm actually eagerly waiting for both to be released (as in 'final' version).

I really like how the game is coming along so far and I also think this lock-on rendering mode looks interesting.
It seems right now the lock-on mode triggers through a hotkey, and I think that's a good thing because then you are not forced to use it.

All in all, I think this is a great update and I'm expecting even more amazing ones to come :)
