Post tutorial Report RSS TUTORIAL: How to change the land unit population cap

In this tutorial, I will show you how to increase your land unit population cap (the original was WAY too small). Its easy and shouldn't take more than a minute or two.

*** NOTICE BEFORE INSTALLING ***

ALWAYS, ALWAYS BACKUP FILES THAT YOU WILL BE MODDING. THERE IS ALWAYS A CHANCE THAT YOU WILL MESS UP A FILE AND RUIN THE GAME. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR GAME AS A RESULT OF THIS MOD.

Step 1:
Go to your Star Wars: Empire at War game directory (usually C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Empire at War).

Step 2:
Double-click on the "GameData" folder.

Step 3:
Double click on the "Data" folder.

Step 4:
Look for and double-click on the "XML" folder.

Step 5:

In the "XML" folder, there should be an XML document titled "factions". Open it with Word or Notepad.

Step 6:
Carefully scroll down the document until you see text like this:
Land_Skirmish_Unit_Cap_By_Player_Count 0,10 1,10 8,5

Step 7:
Change the second number of each pair of numbers to the population limit you want.

Voila! You've successfully increased the land population cap. By the way, this should also work for Forces of Corruption.

BTW, if you do not have an XML folder, Gamefront should have the folder and files for patched versions of Empire at War

Oops. I forgot to say that after finishing step 6, you save and close the XML document. Seems pretty obvious, but someone's bound to miss it. Have fun!

I made it EXCACTLY several times for the Halo mod.
I have EaW Gold Edition over Steam and play this nice mod.
But only - 15 pop for USNC and 9 for Aliens.

Have I to modify the normal Forces of Corruption to get a change for the mod pop cap?

To increase CW ground pop per point go into the XML markers and look for Reinforcement_Point_plus

You can edit the number in additional_popluation_capacity

That's odd... It works for me. Although I may have forgotten a parameter in the XML files. I'll try to look into it.

Hi,

I've tried that, it works well for skirmish but I've seen no effects in galacric conquest. Is there a file which describe the population points given by each landing pad on a planet ?

I've finally found how to do that :
In marker.xml, you will find several lines for each reinforcement points (+1 cap, +2 cap, +3 cap, +4 cap, +5cap and +10 cap), such as "Reinforcement_Point_Plus1_Cap".
You can modify the number in that kind of line : <Additional_Population_Capacity>1</Additional_Population_Capacity>.
If you replace 1 by 2, each reinforcement point +1 will in fact grants you +2. It's work in galactic conquest.

I was able to increase the population cap of each reinforcement points but it seems that the max is 10 for some reason. I multiply each cap by 1000 yet the max reinforcement cap is still 10 no matter how much reinforcement point i capture. Any help?

Well I found an alternative for this:

Instead of trying to increase the cap, I edit so that each unit will not consume any capacity at all! You will have to edit each unit's XML files however. Also I use this to play the mod Republic At War, not EAW or FOC. The original games doesn't come with the individual unit's XML (even if you search online). FOC does come with unit's XML but only for the expansion. So this method will only work partially for FOC but it works fully for the faction of Zann Consortium.

How I should edit any unit so that each unit will not consume any capacity?

This:

<Land_Skirmish_Unit_Cap_By_Player_Count>
0,10,
1,10,
8,10,
</Land_Skirmish_Unit_Cap_By_Player_Count>

Becomes this:

<Land_Skirmish_Unit_Cap_By_Player_Count>
0,30,
1,30,
8,30,
</Land_Skirmish_Unit_Cap_By_Player_Count>

Where you can replace '30' with a number of your choice

There's one more step. You need to go into the MARKERS.XML file. There are several lines toward the bottom-middle that start with <Marker name="Reinforcement_Point_Plus1_Cap"> (or Plus2, Plus3) etc. You need to change the line: <Additional_Population_Capacity>1</Additional_Population_Capacity> to a much higher number. Otherwise, your land cap might be high, but you can't bring in any more than the 1, 2, 3, or 10 that the map says you can.

For GC land combat, you have to edit the values in the map itself. BTW, the mod Absolute Corruption mod 2.4 has the maps edited for that already.

For GC space combat, you have to edit the values for each faction in the faction xml files.

there is not a factions folder under the XML folder for me, but there is a folder called GAMECONSTANTS - will that work?

Btw for GC go to your xml folder, markers, each reinforcement point that you see in game has a population value value,
<Marker Name="Reinforcement_Point_Plus1_Cap"> <Variant_Of_Existing_Type>Reinforcement_Point</Variant_Of_Existing_Type>
<Land_Model_Name>W_Pedistal_faction_1.alo</Land_Model_Name>
<Additional_Population_Capacity>1</Additional_Population_Capacity> What I like to do is everything is times two (x2) so
<Marker Name="Reinforcement_Point_Plus1_Cap">
<Variant_Of_Existing_Type>Reinforcement_Point</Variant_Of_Existing_Type>
<Land_Model_Name>W_Pedistal_faction_1.alo</Land_Model_Name>
<Additional_Population_Capacity>2</Additional_Population_Capacity>
Hope it helps, however even though everything times two adds up to 50, the max is 20 (I never could figure that one out lol). So it isn't too unbalanced.

anyone know how to increase the land unit cap for when you're in campaign? downloaded the xml files and did the edit and it works on skirmish, but not on campaign or galactic conquest, although it does still work on all three with space combat though

had redone it, have it set to 25000, but when i tried a land skirmish match, it was at the 100 unit cap instead of the set unit cap. not sure if I missed something as I had set it as follows

<Land_Skirmish_Unit_Cap_By_Player_Count>
0,25000,
1,25000,
8,25000,
</Land_Skirmish_Unit_Cap_By_Player_Count>

set the space unit cap to 25000 for each faction and it works fine. could someone help, please
