You should have acted. They're already here. The Elder Scrolls told of their return. Their defeat was merely delay until the time after Oblivion opened, when the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood. But... there is one they fear. In their tongue he is Dovahkiin; Dragon Born!

Post news Report RSS Bethesda’s Paid Mods Creation Club Now Available For Skyrim

Plus: Hardcore survival mode will be coming soon through the new mod system.

Posted by on

Bethesda has announced that its Creation Club initiative is now available for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition on Steam. This is available as part of the recently-released 1.5 update for the game, and will require players to opt-in to the Steam Beta for access to the Creation Club.

Creation Club was announced at E3 2017 for Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition. It is a new revision of Bethesda’s previous paid mods initiative, which was aborted due to concerns raised and negative reactions from the modding community.

Just under one month ago, Creation Club became available for Fallout 4, and offered a series of skins and weapons for purchase. The depth and quality of the Fallout 4 purchases on offer were criticised, and so Bethesda appears to be taking a different approach with Skyrim: Special Edition by announcing an-depth, hardcore Survival Mode that will be coming to the game’s own Creation Club storefront.

Skyrim is no stranger to Survival Mode mods created by fans, so Bethesda’s own take on the difficulty mode already has a lot of competition. To that end, the mode is adding new mechanics that cover hunger, fatigue, temperature, health regeneration, disease and afflictions. It’s also making changes to encumbrance, levelling up mechanics, and letting vampire and werewolf mechanics play into survival as well.

Skyrim Survival Cold

It sounds rather comprehensive, and the Survival Mode will be available for free for a week once Creation Club launches out of beta – but after that week, it’s implied the mode will no longer be free.

Is this a better start for a game’s Creation Club content than Fallout 4? Have you played any survival mods that are even more in-depth than what Bethesda is offering? Let us know in the comments.

Honestly, I expect the same reaction from the community as before. They probably are handling it better this time, but it hinges on the fact that they're gonna start charging for something that is currently free. I'd be fine with it if people weren't gonna charge 80% more than they need to. If Bethesda is deciding the pricing and the pricing is LOW ENOUGH then it'll be worth it. A $3 mod should NEVER be charging $20.

Yeah this and the BFG for Fallout 4 seem to be the only decent content they have up there.

The BFG is only viable thanks to the FREE animation add-on on the Nexus.

I have no issues with people being allowed to make genuine paid content for someone elses game. I have an issue with them using the good name of modders. I have an issue with them following a microtransaction model. I have an issue with the original game creators taking a lion's share of the money. I really have an issue if the original makers rely on modders/content creators to finish their game. The corporate world just doesn't get this.

Yup, if creation club actually sold like expansion pack level content then it wouldn't be a bad thing, so long as the creators got most of the money from it that is.

Survival mode? Judging by description, it seems like a cut Frostfall.

Trust me, it is. It is Frostfall plus INeed. You can't tweak it, however. Only turn ON/OFF.

Would be nice if boycotts would work. I think annoying the hell out of Bethesda on their forums is probably a better way.

Look, Bethesda just stole the idea behind Frostfall & INeed and made it worst.
Why does that not suprise me?

For me, the worst part of this recent uproar isn't the fact that Bethesda charge for mods, but the fact that they are so reluctant to listen to the communities about the quality of the mods and nasty way of pricing their mods. Since the first release of the Fallout 4 CC, I was left with disappointment regarding the quality/price ratio, and was under the illusion that they will listen to their community. But the release of the not-so different contents for Skyrim finally put the last nail on my Bethesda trust coffin.

Hope that another company rises from the ground and replaces Bethesda for the open world genre with mod ability. Bethesda is an old dinosaur constantly tweaking an outdated buggy engine and pushing it on the community to make them world a darn.

Yes, its better pay for something that is completely free and not to mention give a cut from it to the company that your modding the game of (Sarcastically)

i think Bethesda will cut off the mod support of next TES or fallout game.
Or will add a paid modding tool.

it's fine solong as its not killing off external modding, if it goes down the road of minecraft pocket edition/win10 edition for their next game and only allow paid mods, then can't see their next titles being worth purchasing
