This is the very first released version of World of Padman as a modification for Quake 3 Arena, also known as the PadMod. It was originally released June 18th, 2004 and was also marked as beta then. This is the unified ZIP file. It is not the stand alone game World of Padman!
Ok, this is the biggest FunMod project ever! But what can you expect from the mod? Here is a short summary:
- We will have 2 download versions of the mod, both 340 MB heavy: a win 32 installer including all you need. Just run the setup and everything will be done automatically, including shortcuts on the desktop and so on! And we will also offer a zip file for all the Linux and MacOS fans out there. We had no chance to test it on Mac, but we hope it will work. Here you have to extract the mod into your Quake 3 Arena root directory and it will also include a shortcut to start the mod in the right way.
- the mod will include 3 game types: Spray Your Color, Big Balloon and Last Pad Standing
- we have 11 maps in Lilliput style
- 6 player models with 14 different skins, everyone including team skins, so in total a number of 42 skins
- 9 new weapons
- 7 new powerups
- fun and even more
World of Padman
------------------
You have successfully downloaded the ZIP-Version of the "World of Padman".
To install it, unzip the complete archive into your Q3-root-directory and select "use pathnames" in you zip program. You should now have something like this:
c:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\wop
This wop-folder includes all the necessary files to play the mod. You'll also find the readme in there, please take a look at it!
WIN-USERS:
-----------
There should also be a .bat file in your Root dir (c:\Program Files\Quake III Arena\wop.bat) which should be used to start the mod! Do not start the mod using the Q3 menu!! To get the whole WoP-Power you can create a shortcut to this bat on you desktop and change the icon. In the wop\xtras folder you'll find a cool WoP-Logo. Ignore all other files in your q3-root-dir.
LINUX-USERS:
-------------
This MOD also runs under Linux of course. In order to run it, you only need to unpack the .zip archive to the quake3 game directory (usually something like "/usr/local/games/quake3"). It will automatically unpack the files needed to the directory "wop/". If you start quake3 now, you will see a new entry in the MOD menu. It is _not_ recommended that you use this function, or else you will miss out on a few of the padmod features.
Instead, after unpacking you should execute the "wop.sh" file in the quake3 main directory. Before you run this script the first time, check that the executable permission is set by using the command:
chmod a+x wop.sh in the quake3 directory. You can now start the game using the command
./wop.sh Always remember, that under Linux all game specific files like screenshots, demos or logs are saved in "$HOME/.q3a/wop/"! If you want to make things still easier for you, you can create a symbolic link to the wop.sh script. ln -s /wop.sh /usr/local/bin/wop After you ran this command, you'll be able to play the game by typing "wop" anywhere you like in your xterm. Alternatively, some desktop systems like KDE or Gnome will allow you to create Links on your desktop or your start menu.
For those dedicated server admins, you can use the wopded.sh script to start the server. Anyways, I'm afraid you will have to take care about properly configuring the server yourself, as explaining how to do this would go beyond the scope of this readme. There are some padmod specific hints in the readme_server.txt, the rest really is like quake3 configuration.
