In 1997 Quake II was released ending the Strogg's collective leader the Makron being killed. Quake III moves away from the Strogg, but the universe's worst cybernetic foes return in Quake IV, ready to be destroyed yet again by Earth's forces. Quake II left the Strogg home planet without its planetary defenses, leaving it open for your attack as part of Earth's new armada. You help deliver the final assault to the Strogg as Matthew Kane, member of an elite squad fighting along squadmates with vehicles and advanced weaponary. Quake IV is based on the Doom III engine, although it is apparent that Quake IV will be a superior modding platform thanks to iD and Raven's efforts in optimizing the netcode, adding vehicles, and general fixes made to the engine since Doom III's release.
This little tool, made for modders, is an automatic file extraction software for games based on the IdTech4 engine (also known as Trinity) developed and owned by id Software. The supported games are: Doom 3, Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil, Quake 4, Prey and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Wolfenstein and Brink are not supported at the moment). IdTech4 File Unpacker is useful to extract the entire game data preserving the correct files and folders structure from all the pk4s archives used by the game and by subsequent patches. This new version is compatible with 32bit and 64bit Windows Operating Systems; it features the DotNetZip library for faster and safer extraction; a new multi-threading core; new buttons to explore the supported games installation folders and many other minor tweaks.
So I can grab the game sounds/music this way?
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: this software allows you to extract every resource used by the game: maps, textures, sounds, scripts and so on.
Is it possible to browse the files before extraction and select what kind of files you want to extract, like Only textures? :)
Not with this application, but you can browse and extract what you want from any pk4 file using a zip compatible archive manager (like Winrar).
OK, thank you :)
Any chance to get Linux support?
Sadly it is not possible as the application was written in C# with the .Net Framework. Anyway, you can also use a zip compatible archive manager to explore and extract files from pk4 files.
You don't really need an unpacker for them, they are merely renamed zip files.
You are correct, this application was made just to make things easier and automated.
7zip can do it
Yes, any archive manager that supports the zip format can be used to extract contents from a pk4.
How to unpack resurces from Rage game?
sounds, textures, models...
Sorry, can't help you, Rage uses the idTech5 engine, I have no idea how it compress resources.
Guys, you can simply open .pk files with WINRAR and extract exactly what you need (there is no need to unpack a whole part just for eg. music).
