Quake 2 is another classic from id software. While not modded quite as much as it's predecessor or Q3A, it is still a blast to play and the mod's on offer are bundles of fun. Just step into Quake 2 Rocket Arena, armed with the new and almighty rocket and rail gun and you will be gibbing for hours on end.If you dig fast paced action, then load up the good ole Quake 2, fire up a mod or two and have some fun!
This DLL file, compiled from the official release of the re-release gamecode removes the new Berserker jump move, which is very annoying and almost unblockable.
I like that they're finally somewhat dangerous, but I do wish they'd telegraph the attack a bit, and/or not have the area of effect like the fiend from Quake 1. Any possibility you could do one or both of those?
Definitely I can make it so that it isn't so powerful, maybe a little hop or only do it when you're far and have them jump only a little bit. Might take a bit more 'fine tuning' but it is possible.
Ok I've uploaded a 'nerf jump' version too.
You're awesome!
can you add a Railgun damage fix as an extra, bring it back to its 150 dmg for singleplayer? and add it to both mods?
This can be done
Damn, this was quick! Now we just need a mod that un-nerfs the Railgun LOL

Maybe we can contact that mod author and get these things merged into a single 'fix'. I think that would be awesome for users.
hi there,
i went here Github.com
downloaded source, used visual studio 2022, but i could not compile...
what did you do to make the game compile ?
VS2022 with jsoncpp and C++ standard set to c++20 to avoid extra dependencies
thanks for the info
Hey there, the game crashes at startup when I use the dll, saying it cant find the game dll. I made a backup from the old dll and put both dlls (of nerf_jump) directly where the original was. What am I doing wrong?
It's not clear from the instructions, but I believe you're supposed to put jsoncpp.dll in "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Quake 2\rerelease", separately from game_x64.dll which goes in "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Quake 2\rerelease\baseq2"
Sorry about that, developers aren't always great at documentation :) StygianEmperor is correct, this is the right way to do it.
Whilst it's great of the team to restore cut content and make this enemy more interesting to fight, I agree that it's jump and ground pound attack should be nerfed (and be easier to predict).
Any chance to add a thirdperson view to the re-release, PLEASE?!
Hello all.
I have updated this mod to include the railgun damage restoration (150 instead of 100) and statically linked the json parser into the dll file, so there is just a single file now and will load once you overwrite the original quake 2 dll in baseq2 (backup the original first).
All source code and fixed project files for the mod are available under the GPL (same as the release game code).

The only issue I have with the restored/improved Berserker is the area of effect of their splash attack

I could see about doing that.
