An accurate simulation of "The Hunger Games". You're a tribute, fighting intelligent AI in a "battle royal" to be the last person standing. Inspired by the novels by Suzanne Collins and the movies by Lionsgate Films. This is a turned based combat game in 1st person perspective, with Roguelike elements. The randomly generated arenas feature a central "Cornucopia" filled with melee and ranged weapons along with food and other gear, surrounded by wilderness in which one can hide or forage. You may form alliances with the other tributes, and backstab or be backstabbed by your allies. In the preview image (from a special "Audience" standpoint) you can see the semicircle of 24 tributes on their platforms, the central golden Cornucopia, gear in front of and within it, and surrounding landscape containing mountains and waterways. "May the odds be ever in your favor!" :)
Version 3.0 introduces night vision goggles, which allow you to see perfectly in darkness. You can also customize tribute names and hairstyles, such as give everybody names from the 74th Hunger Games.
Okay, listing time. (Things stated in the img description not included)
1). Clearly, new nightvision goggles, represented by yellow.
2). Text that don't "involve" you, are greyed.
3). Instead of saying "Bla bla tribute hits Bla for 2 damage, who has 8 health left," It now says "Bla bla tribute hits Bla for 2 damage,: 8 health left!" This doesn't seem to change if you are the one who peformed the attack though.
4). There seems to be some kind of yellow tile of some sort coming from the left of the screen and continues for 5-6 more tiles. I have no idea what this could be, at first I thought it was the reflection of the cornucopia, but that doesn't make sense since it's night and there's no reflection for the other side. It could be some kind of poison(?)
Very, very odd..
5). More changes to text.. ex. It's now "D1B throws a dart at D3B, : A dart hits D3B for bla bla bla"
That's about all I found.
Good observations. :) Here's some more details:
1: Yes, you can see the new Nightvision Goggles object (yellow tile) right in front of you. You're also wearing another pair, which is why the arena seems fully lit even though stars are out.
2: Indeed, "lower priority" messages that don't involve you are now gray text. Gray text messages may be discarded if they take place too far away from you.
3: Yes, there's minor text changes. The "for X damage: Y health left" is a bit shorter and to the point. Also "who has Y health left" could technically be considered ambiguous English. Is it the attacker or the target who has that amount of health? :)
4: On the left side of the screen is simply some green grass tiles. Much of the arena is snow (which is why Cato can see footprints in it) but some is grass too. However that's an important addition: Mixed terrain arenas, such as with both trees/grass and cactus/sand.
5: The subtle text changes are because a thrown weapon is really two messages combined: "X throws a Y" and "a Y hits/misses Z" (with any ammo animation taking place between them). If both events take place near you, they're combined into one line. However if somebody just on the edge of your perception throws farther away from you, you'll only see the "X throws a Y" message. Similarly, if somebody out of perception range throws at somebody you can barely perceive, you'll only see the "Y hits/misses Z" part.
Another thing is. It has 22/24 tributes instead of :22
Yes, "X" tributes left is now "X/Y" tributes left, since "Y" may vary now. :) That's new over the currently released version, however the new tribute counter can also be seen in the previous screenshot.
Question, how dark will night actually be without NV goggles, because honestly it would be a pain more than anything if you can't seem more than 3-4 tiles ahead of you, I get it, realism, but that's a bit overkill.
Nightvision Goggles are very useful, but you can play without them. In Plains and Desert arenas, you can still see shadows of tributes moving against the background in the distance, so you're not blind. (Night is a bit more challenging in Mountain and Forest arenas.) Beware because Mutts can see perfectly in darkness, so climbing a tree at night like Katniss did might be something to consider.
I have it so day lasts 3x longer than night (assume it's Summer) so even if you can't see anything you only need to wait 25 turns before it starts getting light again. Having a day/night cycle is also a setting, so you can play the entire game in eternal day (like the current version) if you prefer. :)
Oh, wew. That's a relief to hear. Will AI tributes still have superpowers and able to see you through the night fog, or will AI tributes be affected by night, climbing up trees as you said.
AI without Nightvision Goggles is affected by darkness just like you are. :) Only Mutts have super vision. That means AI can't see objects and tributes as far in the distance (e.g. won't run and pick up stuff unless it's closer). Darkness affects combat too: When visibility radius is within 8 squares, AI won't even initiate ranged combat even though somebody's in range (because the target isn't noticed).
the trees would be really good if they were not just poles
Indeed, or at least give them better textures. However the blockiness does at least make it clear where you can stand and climb. For example, in the next version you'll be able to climb and stand on top of trees, mountains, and the Cornucopia, instead of just clinging to their sides. Large trees could be overhanging, however that being present would suggest not only being able to climb the sides of things, but perhaps cling to ceilings, such as hang from a branch like on monkey bars.
Personally, I like the blocky style of it.
You should make it so whwn we throw rocks, if it lands on the landmine it explodes it. I havnt tried it so i dont know if you can in 2.5
No, currently if an object tries to land on another object, it moves to the nearest open square. That includes if an object is dropped or thrown on an active landmine. However, having thrown/dropped objects detonate landmines is a great idea! That means you should never active a landmine at your feet during combat, because another tribute can kill you by throwing anything at you. Even if it misses, it will land at your feet and detonate the freshly activated landmine underneath you. :O
Info on top should only be about things you see.
The text messages at the top of the screen are limited to things that take place near you. (It's based on distance as opposed to what you can see, since you can still hear things taking place behind you.) If an event takes place too far away from you, such as somebody picking up Berries on the other side of the arena, then it won't appear. Note that some events, like cannon firings, are "global" in scope and are always displayed.
whens the download thing i want it so badly
I don't have a new download yet, but there is at least a new screenshot today. :)
