You can easily do LOD in propper by simply making multiple models and then going back and editing the .QC file of one of them to included the other SMD files, then re-compile that on .QC file. The bonus is you now have lower res copies already compiled for skybox or other distance use.

The reference smd is used as the animation SMD. It's valid because it already contains everything that's needed for a single frame animation.

Sounds very useful, but I have two questions:

If you already have modeling software and know how to use it, then is this tool still useful?

Is the download safe?

It's useful as a SMD exporter from Hammer, or if you have an existing map that would benefit from optimization.

The download contains an exe that is an edited version of Valve's SDK code. I can only give you my word that I haven't added any malicious code. Or I can send you the source code if you like.

The zip files contains a folder called sourcesdk--you merge that with your existing steam\steamapps\<username>\sourcesdk folder (you must have the SDK installed first). It won't work if you put it anywhere else.

Almost certainly not. Letting you make bones in Hammer would be possible, but I have no idea how you could do mesh weighting and keyframe animation. At any rate it's far outside my initial intentions for the tool.

Propper is one hell of an awesome add-on.
The things created with it are, of course, not as good looking as real made models, but it is an awesome help to create simple brushes, compile them as a model and use those in your map!

I have been using Propper as a rule in my mod Novacor: The Fringe. I dont use a modellling program, and without this I would have had to learn to or just make a basic Half Life 2 Mod. Thanks again, you will be in the Mod credits as a special thanks!

Source SDK had a small update just today. Ever since then I have not been able to compile any models using Propper. The Compile Log outputs two lines of

"Can't load f:\program files (x86)\steam\ steamapps\USERNAME\ sourcesdk\bin\ orangebox\bin\ filesystem_steam.dll."

before stopping. Propper is a superb tool that I can't work without, I would be very greatful of a fix or any imformation on the issue I am having.

when i launch CS:S this appair in the console:

Can't init propper_model"

then the Model don't appair, and i can't find it in the BSP
