Triage is a medical mod that aims to balance the very simplistic means of healing crippled limbs that we have now, without bogging the player down in overly complex treatment options and medical supplies.
With Triage, your medicine skill is representative of your ability to heal cuts, treat deep bruises and other flesh wounds (your hit points). However, serious injuries such as broken bones, punctured lungs and head trauma, while they may not kill you outright, will require your character to specialize some in Medicine in order to treat them along with the right medical supply.

Triage for New Vegas is an updated port of Kearsage's original Triage mod for Fallout 3.
Triage is recommended for use with New Vegas' Hardcore Mode!
OVERVIEW
Even in New Vegas' Hardcore mode, the matter of resetting your mangled bones and alleviating your seared/punctured/torn flesh is still too simple of a fix. With a single click on a Doctor's Bag, you can heal your limbs instantly - even in the middle of a shootout!

This has the net effect of making getting crippled a much more serious matter.
Treating your limbs is as easy as activating the [RobCo Medical Widget] (located in your Apparel inventory) and following the on-screen instructions. Don't stumble around the wasteland! Triage!
DETAILS
Doctor's Bags can no longer be directly applied to crippled limbs to heal them. However, there's no need to worry about carrying around 5 different types of bandages and having to run though a half dozen ways to fix your various injuries, the Doctor's Bags that we all know and love will still give you all you need to heal your crippled limbs.
Opening (i.e. using) any Doctor's Bag that you find out in the Mojave will give you three very important items: a medical brace, surgical supplies (i.e. Surgical Tubing), and a stimpak. Of course, you can find these items individually out in the wasteland, and can even pack them all up into a 'new' Doctor's Bag to save space if you so choose (using the new recipe for 'creating' Doctor's Bags).
In order to heal your own crippled limbs, you must have the sufficient Medicine skill (and perks, listed below) as well as the appropriate medical supplies in your inventory.
*****
With little to no training (A.K.A. no medical perks), you can only perform first aid, which only restores fully crippled limbs to 5% of their health using a medical brace/surgical supplies and a stimpak. You cannot heal limbs further. Level your medical expertise or seek professional medical attention to heal your limbs fully. Picking out bits of lead and shrapnel is harder than it looks!
Triage adds two new perks to the game. (You can select between three methods on how you should attain these perks. View the Installation instructions below.)
With the Wasteland Doctor Perk (Med. 40), you can restore arms or legs from a fully crippled state to 100% using a medical brace and a stimpak. You can also fully heal partially injured arms and legs using only stimpaks. You can do this by accessing the new sub-menu titled [Heal Injured Limbs] that is added to the [RobCo Medical Widget] 'Crippled Limbs' menu.
With the Wasteland Surgeon Perk (Med. 60), you can restore a head or chest from a fully crippled state to 100% over time using surgical supplies and a stimpak. You can also fully heal a partially injured head or chest using only stimpaks.
Note that if you're currently in combat, you will only be able to perform "First Aid", no matter what medical expertise you have. You will still need a stimpak and the appropriate medical supplies, and you will only be able to restore 5% of that limb's health.
Medical Braces (with the Wasteland Doctor perk) and Surgical Supplies (with the Wasteland Surgeon Perk) can be recovered after treatment. Your chance of successfully recovering your medical supplies is a percentage based on your Medicine skill. For example, a character with Medicine skill of 65 will have a 65% chance to recover supplies.
****
Alternatively, without the sufficient medical expertise and/or supplies, you can visit one of the Mojave Wasteland's many doctors to restore your limbs to full health.
You can find individual medical braces and surgical supplies from various vendors and doctors throughout the Mojave. Or, to get them all at once, look for and/or buy Doctor's Bags.
Hydra no longer heals your limbs, instead, it allows you to ignore your crippled limbs for 240 seconds. The Healing Poultice from Honest Hearts also has had it's limb healing effects removed.
INSTALLATION
Exact triage_fnv.esp to your Fallout New Vegas\data directory and activate it using your desired mod manager.
Upon loading up the game with Triage activated, you'll be presented with a Triage Setup screen where you can select your desired preference for how the new perks should be distributed. You can choose from 3 options in this menu:
1. Automatically add Doctor and Surgeon perks (for free) at Medicine Levels 40 and 60, respectively.
- Self-explanatory. This option is also retroactive, so if you already have a medicine skill of above 40 or 60, you'll still get the appropriate perks. Of course, when you reach Med. 40 or 60 during a level up, make sure not to accidentally waste your perk point by using it on the Wasteland Doctor or Surgeon perks when you see them in your available perks list.
2. Choose perks during level-up.
- You will not receive any perks upon loading the mod. You must choose the Wasteland Doctor and Surgeon perks from the perk screen when you level up.
3. Add perks immediately.
- Self-explanatory. No fussing around with medicine skills or leveling up, choosing this option gives you the Wasteland Doctor and Wasteland Surgeon perks immediately.
ADDITIONAL NOTES / TROUBLESHOOTING
- 'Surgical Tubing' has been renamed to 'Surgical Supplies'.
- Trying to heal a limb by clicking on it will simply open a Doctor's Bag and retrieve the items from it. If you do not have any Doctor's Bags, clicking on a limb will do nothing.
- KNOWN ISSUE: Sometimes upon leaving the RobCo Medical Widget screen, it will still be equipped in the Apparel screen, requiring you to unequip and reequip the widget if you wish to use it again. Very minor issue, doesn't negatively affect the mod in any way, but that little square beside the item indicating that it's 'equipped' might bug you.
This mod will cause conflicts with any mod that changes medical braces and surgical tubing. To avoid issues, it is recommended that you load this mod later in your load order.
