Okay, there are several Descent sites where you can find more than just mods, but the 2 places I know of to get the Pyromania mod for Windows are Descentforum.net , there is a list of files and mods for D3, Pyromania is the first on the list. The other site to go to is www.planetdescent.com where you can find out anything about any descent game and download/upload everything ever made for descent.
About the mod, though. Pyromania should be installed in the folder descent is installed in. It will make its own executable through which you can play the game. The movies are disabled when using Pyromania, but the advantage of it is that you can play through all the levels of Descent 3 with 3 new ships and all the weapons of Descent 1 & 2. For multiplayer there are 3 extra ships in addition to the 3 ships usable in single-player mode. The 6 total ships are named as follows: Black Pyro (MP), Black Star (SP), Pyro-GX (SP) Pyro-SX (SP), Pyro-GE (MP), and the Starhawk. The Black Pyro and Starhawk have Dual-Missile launching capability. I may upload the installer later once I find out if it's legal to distribute it.
Also, Pyromania, along with the graphics, works better with patch v1.4 or better.

if you can find it, the two disk version works on everything from 98 to XP, even when unpatched, but i sugest going to www.descent3.com and get the double jewl fix and get the official 1.4 patches

Nope, Descent3 is not a Spaceflight-Sim. Its like Descent1 and Descent2 a game where you fligh ships with 6 degrees of freedom. Basically you fly through dark and tight Mines, blowing up Robots that are gone nuts :) D3 Ships have a lot of primar and secondary weapons as well as other equipment, but what is different to other shooters is simply the way you can control your ship. The D3 Ships can slide in 4 directions, and turn on 3 axis. that makes multiplayer as well as singleplayer incredible fun and challenging.
