It also uses new gaming styles that you will rarely find in Half-Life mods, such as advanced cutscenes and other stuff that will be revealed at a later date.

Yeah, AoM's was too dark, even increasing brightness barely helped. I wish people realized - super dark isn't scary, you can't even see what is supposed to be scary. :P

That's the point in some ways, what you can't see instills fear in you much more than what you can, the perception that there might be something nasty somewhere nearby, but you can't... see... it.
Only fact that in AoM DC it just became a spray fest to hit wtf is ever making that noise all the way over there and thus, especially in the forest level, became very boring very quickly...
... I also agree on adding atleast a TAD more light than in AoM, I couldn't see **** even if it was right infront of me, so most of the screamer stuff was lost on me ( flashing screens / ghouls popping up ) cuz I couldn't see it happen in the first place.

Exactly! This is the same reason why Resident Evil is not scary one bit, even though it is a great game. I don't understand how can people be seriously frightened by movies or "survival horror" games.
I regard Silent Hill as Psychological Horror and nowhere near survival horror. In RE you're supposed to survive the infestation. In SH you are supposed to be traumatized into a frail psyche full of disturbing imaginery.
