Every world has conflict. Good and evil. Friend and foe. Safety and danger. In Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn™, you'll find yourself between these factions. This epic sequel will immerse you in a world of intrigue, adventure and fierce combat where your ability to discern the difference between these sides - with the assistance of steel and spell - determines your fate.

Your story begins anew in the exotic southern kingdom of Amn, amidst the opulence of the sinister capital city of Athkatla. Journey through the fierce, unforgiving wilderness of Amn, and through the treacherous caverns of the Underdark, in your quest for artifacts of awesome power and treasure of inestimable wealth.. even challenge dragons, if you dare. Such is the life of a legend.

Hundreds of monsters and characters to discover, and all new magic spells to master. Richer quests and sub-quests to undertake, for good or for evil. A massive gaming world, hundreds of hours of gameplay! Not to mention the countless number of mods available extending this already awesome game!

As an avid player of both, BG2 takes the cake.

IWD, lost lots of the spell caster interest, especially 2.

depends what you want.

BG is better characters and story, IWD is more challenging with more rewarding combat.

I think that one of the signs of a truly great game in this world of super video cards and high expectations is how long people still talk about the game - this IS truly one of the all time greats and the fact that we still even talk about it is an ode to its magnificence. I work as a game advisor for Game Stop, so video games are a dime-a-dozen for me and it is my job to play and know intimately video games, and still this game's sublime story and loyalty to the D&D world and mechanics keep me playing - it may not be the prettiest game, but its the heart and soul of the game that keeps people hooked.

When I learned that Black Isle wasn't making any more games, I was incredibly surprised considering how great Icewind Dale I/II and Baldur's gate were. Anyone know if the company is leaving Interplay and making new games with someone else?

I finished baldur's gate 2 3 times and i still wonder... Y isn't it set in Baulders gate and beyond rather than all the way down in amn? baldurs gate isn't the sort of game u can finish at once i personally found it boring after an hour or so and came back to it later. :P
