I think that one of the signs of a truly great game in this world of super video cards and high expectations is how long people still talk about the game - this IS truly one of the all time greats and the fact that we still even talk about it is an ode to its magnificence. I work as a game advisor for Game Stop, so video games are a dime-a-dozen for me and it is my job to play and know intimately video games, and still this game's sublime story and loyalty to the D&D world and mechanics keep me playing - it may not be the prettiest game, but its the heart and soul of the game that keeps people hooked.

When I learned that Black Isle wasn't making any more games, I was incredibly surprised considering how great Icewind Dale I/II and Baldur's gate were. Anyone know if the company is leaving Interplay and making new games with someone else?

I finished baldur's gate 2 3 times and i still wonder... Y isn't it set in Baulders gate and beyond rather than all the way down in amn? baldurs gate isn't the sort of game u can finish at once i personally found it boring after an hour or so and came back to it later. :P

There are mods, couple big ones, many many small ones. Just gotta look past MODDB. One of my personal favourites... God i wish Black Isle was still creating masterpieces :(.

Ive been playing this game for so many years i can't remember anymore.
It is so addicting that Even when I get sick of playing it, i still feel like I should be playing it.

Ive never once used a mod, but now that Ive discovered this new way to enjoy the game I think I will go on another rampage of killing dragons and umber hulks.

When I get new games I immediatly compare them to this one, Neverwinter fell very short in my oppinion, not nearly as satisfying. In Fact very few games can compare to this one in overall gameplay, check it on any game site and the ratings are all way up.

Highly recommended and right now a new full collectors edition sells for fifteen bucks on amazon. Fifteen bucks well spent.

I would argue that Baldur's Gate II is the greatest game ever created for PC. Similar to its predecessor (Baldur's Gate) but superior in every conceivable way Baldur's Gate II is an epic story telling of not only the path you make, but the friends your character makes, the villains he fights, and the Forgotten Realm he lives in. The story alone, with hundreds of branches, multiple plotlines that interweave could make a text adventure that would put most modern games to shame. We haven't even touched…
