This game is part of Project Epsylon which includes Dragonscript (a GPL scripting/programming language), Drag(en)gine (a GPL game engine) and the final game itself. Main focus on this project is to create a free crossplatform gameengine and game originating from linux systems.
It is late this afternoon where Sam and Tedeon are taking a nap on the near hillside. Georgo joins up to tell them about the informations he squeezed out of his informant from the shany towns. They learned some days ago that the old laboratory in the valley side has found some new people inhabiting it. A couple of month ago they took out a drug dealer ring which used that laboratory as their production and shipping facility. Since then the building had been neglected. But now there seems to be life in their, non autorized one. Sam and Georgo assume that those guys might have returned. Deciding to pull off once more a night operation they decide that both of them are enought to deal with
it and that Tedeon and Sean should take a nap. Approaching the car though Sean shows up on the window pulling of their sad little face. Sam knows quickly that she wants to participate in this one. As Tedeon does not use his veto as her father she is up for the party too.
After the nightfall the three take on the laboratory. They notice quickly that the building has been befitted with a couple of guards. It is thus time for some stealth operation to get in there unseen. They
know from their last intrusion that this building holds subterrain laboratories and appropriate equipment. Down they search through the labs and find out that those people in charge here somehow managed to get their hands on the old research documents of Sam that he created back in those days where he researched his portal generation device. Sam knew that with the uncomplete documents nobody would be able to recontruct his portal. Unfortunatly those people seem to have knowledge about xendronite crystals which goes beyond what physics can explain at the time. After some more searching around they find out who might be responsible for this and an address of a dimension: alpha-10, the world Odjin comes from. Knowing that in this world do exist people that would love to own such a device they decide to head over to alpha-10 with the entire team to investigate further. They have to make sure that this technology is not misused by the wrong people.
The next day they set off for alpha-10 not knowing that they just ended up in one of the most tricky cases they ever had.
All your actions have large influence on the events in the world. It is better to solve your missions without lethal force if possible. You can take enemies on with your bare hands or use tranquilizing
devices to knock them unconcious. Take advantage of the Energy based fight system to overcome your foos. If you knock somebody's energy low he will act completly different than if he has full energy. Get
Physical Boost by triggering your Adrenaline-Meter to get out of desperate situations. But beware, what happens to your enemies can also happen to you.

Again quite some time since the last update. Like always this is mostly due to the fact that we push the work on the game engine before giving some hands on the game itself since we have the goal to get this puppy out of the door somewhere this year. The large part of this news post is therefore included in a separate news post for the game engine and won't be restated here.
Nevertheless some work has been done the game itself. This work consisted mainly on working on the main characters in this case the dragons. A set of high resolution textures has been worked on. The aim on this skin is to make a lifelike and realistic dragon skin one you could imagine crossing your path while taking a stroll in the woods. We tested various methods and settled for a nice solution providing not only a good looking skin but also a reusable one ( the system, not the skin ). Dragons in the game have a similar or nearly equal base skin color ( for the same kinds that is ). Each individual though has a unique skin pattern. You will be able to tell them apart from a distance by looking merely at their skin pattern... that is if you manage to spot these guys. They blend perfectly into forestine environments. Use this as an advantage for those pesky little humans roaming around ;) . The skin is not fully finished yet but the general look is done requiring some touch ups on the feet as well as weeding out seem problems ( done in the end when the skin is ready ). So here the obligate images:
You can find more images in the Epsylon Showcase.
This skin contains now a diffuse, normal, specular and transparency map. The normal map consist currently only of the detail normal map. The geometry normal map is going to be made using a sculpted version of the model. It's the first time I used the sculpt tool of Blender3D and it works nice so far :D
The HDRR received an update to tackle the problem with the tone mapper. More about this in the news post for the engine itself. Here an image showing the results. Shadowing is ticked off so it's better visible.
Now that the engine is getting closer to the final shape more time can be spend for the game play related tasks. We are not going to say more currently about the new system the player is going to receive to help him unravel the mysteries. So much we can though say ( and give you something to speculate until the next update ) that the system is named PeCopA. The next time we are going to show you what it up with this new system :D ( happy guessing ).
This is a little unfortunate but as it looks our newest member got missing in action. Since a long time communication dropped to zero ( not a problem from our side ). What happened and why he vanished is completely unknown. The work spot is therefore open again for all interested people. Nevertheless we will push this forward. The war is not over yet so count with us in the future :D

great job guys
Wow, This game looks awesome... I'm a real sucker for interactivity...
Do you have an expected release date? and how far (in %) are you from finishing this??? this is definitely a mod-watch for me.
Can not give an estimation for this really. It all depends a lot on how many people are helping. The latest plan had been to release a first version of the engine somewhere this summer but this is also not set in stone. Once the first ( introduction ) chapter is done it will be released as a sort of demo. But like the rest this is just a plan without a fixed date yet.
The videos of keypad and elevator interaction look brilliant.
does dragons really walk like that? As far as i know any 4 legged animal wouldn't walk this way unless they have a genetic defect or something. A normal 4 legged animal would have the hind leg on one side move forward as the foreleg on the same side move backward, and vice versa.
Sorry but this is not the case. I had a lot of input from people doing animations to make things better and they liked it they way it came along. Furthermore look once at 4-legged animals in the real world. You would be astonished what kind of walking you can observe there. This one here therefore is very feasible ( apart from some little hick ups here there due to me not being a very good animator :D )
i mean... think of it this way, humans wouldn't walk with both the arm and the leg on the same side of the body moving forward at the same time, and our very distant ancestors were 4 legged... but maybe im just a little too nit picky...
Has nothing to do with being nit picky. 4-legged locomotion and 2-legged locomotion are different. I've observed various 4-legged animals beforehand to get an idea how they walk this ( so called 'kicking off motion' ) is very common. Furthermore people doing animations ( and therefore knowing about it more than me ) considered this acceptable so I am convinced that this is not too far of point. And besides this gives a little bit of this "serpentine motion" which adds to the overall look and feel in my opinion.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS! Movement!
