Why do are Dead Mods allowed to stay? | Locked | |

There are mods, mainly HL2, that are allowed to stay after long, long periods of posting absolutely nothing. Some of them had nothing to show or say in the first place. I'm not speaking of the mods that have been completed, the mods that are DEAD and never were born, really. Why are they allowed to stay for so long, and how come there is such a strict policy for getting in the place and then nothing inside the carnival is regulated? |

Maybe there are just so many that it's hard to keep track. Maybe if a mod has been inactive for 6 months, an email notice would be sent to the creator telling them about the inactivity of the mod, and that it is subject for deletion. If they do not respond (Or update their mod) it is deleted. That sounds good imo. |

Then where will we mourn? I'm pretty sure this has been answered before, I think it was something like 'to keep a history of moddb (or mods.. or something!)'. I dunno, maybe I made that up. I swear I saw a thread like this before though, maybe you should search the forums? |

The nature of mod development it can go on for years without any notification, that and we are not willing to remove someones work from out site there is no need to. If people want to download and play a mod that will not get anymore updates so be it, let them download and play it. Thats why we archive mods, I do my best when i see a mod die however sometimes they are not vocal about it. --

If I am not mistaken there are some mods that seem dead, but are alive and well. |

I forget who & when, but I remember someone saying that moddb.com's goal is to be the source for all mods. Getting rid of anything not updated would defeat that theory. Besides, lots of goodies in the old stuff. -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

I think he meant with absolutely no progress/screens/demos or anything. Just information and a picture or two for more than a year. Edited by: SEGIII |

Keep in mind the version of moddb your seeing is not the first, when moddb first started it was nothing more then text and a link to download it from another site, a lot of mods still have not been updated since that point in time. We keep the profiles though. As for modern mods no mod has been authorized in the past 4 years without having relevant media and texts, unless the author went postal and deleted everything in a fit of anger or something (it does happen) there shouldnt be that many modern profiles without media and text. --

That is only 3! THREE out of half of the mods on a page on the HL2 game that are COMPLETELY dead. No valid website, no information to put out, nothing. It's not personally bugging me, I just wanted to bring it to your attention that there are way to many dead mods and when I look for something new I would like to play on HL2, I don't want to have to row through a sea of carcasses to find ONE mod. Honestly! And now that I mention it, I'm surprised that other people haven't complained about finding 1 mod out of 5 that has something to give. |

I don't see why your making a big deal about it, if you want to help out your welcome to complete the profiles yourself. Considering these were added just as hl2 rolled around. --

I see benefit in having failed mods recorded. It's like heads on spikes over the gates of medieval cities - they serve as an education to those who see them -- "lets say Portal is a puzzle game, so its a rehash of Tetris" |
