This site needs a voice! Thread

Ok no offense to you guys but when I watch videos like the mod round up of each month I want to link them to my friends but I wont anymore because the that voices them and by the sounds of it voices other things too... just has no personality. I used to link them to my friends but they always replied "gay" or something and thats because the guy made it boring. Gametrailers.com has a voice and while it may not to be to everyones liking it defo works and you can tell he has the talent for it.

I just think the site needs a generic American voice that has some flare to it and while from the UK myself I believe that the American accent is more accepted world wide.

I suggest Morgan Freeman if you can afford him or the guy who does the voice for The G-Man.

You want to spice up the mod roundup by using Morgan Freemans voice? ...

because the people who use the word "gay" to define stuff they don't like or simply for taunting purposes have spoken

suggestion noted I happen to have Mr. Freemans cell right here. Until I can find a reliable voice actor who will A: have the same or better recording equipment then my own, B: have the stones to re-do everything more then 600 times, C: understand and play every mod that is released D: be able to write and interperate my script in a way that works well for the video I have created, E: be on call for whenever i need him/her in short noticed. so until all that happens your stuck with good old aussie me. Unless you yourself have done voice acting dont ever think its easy.

This site has always been about modders to modders, gamers to gamers you should not have to have some pretty voice to get people's attention, it's not G4 here.

I have to agree, I'd rather listen to someone who isn't payed to do voicework and actualy understands the material as opposed to a guy/girl that has no idea what they are talking about and is there purely for the $$. It also fits the theme of the site, like Hatel said, gamer to gamer, modder to modder.

Well the content is fucking shit lol :\ I mean if you put any of these mods that you advertise up against professional games then they wouldn't stand a chance. Time is the currencey of games and game slike TFC and CS became popular becaue they were original and good.

the thing is A: young and you have other commitments like school, the way I make my videos is that I need to do it when I need to do it, I can push videos out in 4 days but I'm working that entire time. So unless your free 24/7 have recording equipment and really know the mods your talking about so that means playing the darn things instead of reading a script only then would I think about giving you a go.

In this case I would prefer that you do, unlike every other gaming site who do have massive budgets and whatnot they have a whole chain of people who write, who collect footage who do other things that are put into this one video. On ModDB its just me. So unless you can create a script that really does the mod justice rather then just being a script you say I would rather know that you play mods. So before you go off suggesting things saying this is gay and so is that maybe you could research the process that goes into what it is that I do.

how can you compare proffesional games and mods??? A proffesional game is made by a team of people who work on it FULL-TIME and get paid, a mod is usually made by someone who has learnt the tools of his trade on his own, and has to do everything in his spare time... and in my humble opinion, ive seen plenty of mods that surpass proffesional games on imagination, style, aesthetics... in fact on everything...

If your slagging off mods because you dont think they are as good as games, then remember a few things, 1) mods are made by fans 2) mods are made with more passion, and more commitment 3) mods are fucking free, instead of paying £35 for a game.

you do realize that your beloved CS and TF both started as mods right?
you allso said again that proffesional games are better made then games, hendrix said most of them but i like to add that those games are made by companies with multi milion bugedets :/

what's wrong with the voice?? I think it's pretty sweet sounding. Henley, decrease the pitch of your voice in your sound app by a few octaves & we'll have "Big Balls Henley the Voice Over Man!"

or you're some 5 year old weenie. "Gay" has been synonymous to "stupid" for at least a couple decades until people recently (past few years) started getting their panties in a bunch. I think the difference is Moddb will never attract bribe money to give undeserving games glowing reviews really big advertising contracts, so Moddb will never have the funding that Gamespot does. It's not like I can see anyone else out there doing a better job of promoting the modding scene, so Moddb is doing a great job with the resources it has

Exactly, which is why people need to just get over it. Moddb doesn't have a corporate office and all that other fancy glitter the other mainstream sites have. It showcases private community work, indie development, and conceptual creativity. So trying to make all these other features other sites have is pointless. Because those features are usually ignored by the users anyways. Be happy there IS A MOD database of some sort at least.

If you don't like small sites who aspire to be something more but probably never will be, take your pick of the money hill forums and community sites that don't even tell you about mods or acknowledge mods exist. Because really, there are only about 4 forums I can think of that promote modding. Be happy with what's given, since it's still free...
