well in short the original series was the best but the new series just destroyed the old school spyro

i don't mind the new series but it changes my look on spyro

is it just me or are some video characters turning into mush in sequels and reboots

The Spyro games died the moment they left the Ps1, go figure. To be fair, only the first two were any good anyway.

Well as far as i know spyro is made locally to where I am, and its not dead. Just dead in your eyes. You have to remember Spyro is a kids game.

The first three were developed by Insomniac. They were always kids games, and they were fantastic platformers / adventure games that sucked up quite a bit of my gaming time, I'll admit.

They went very hastily downhill when Equinox took over - the fourth game had no gameplay, no story, buggy as hell and often ridiculous loading times. The fifth game (made locally to me by Eurocom) was by no means fantastic either.

The "Legend of Spyro" series by Krome studios are amongst some of the worst games I've ever had to endure. They might be stable and non-buggy, but fuck are they boring, mindless, linear slog-fests. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

I'm on agreement with everyone here, although I don't think Spyro really died - from an Art Direction's perspective, Spyro has grown quite a lot in the PS2 series.

The latest game in the "Trilogy" is not made by Krome, but a studio over in France. I'm going to get it in Christmas and play it and let all of you know how good/bad it is.

As a note, I bought and beat The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning under 7 hours first time through. Glad it was on clearance.

I still love the original PS series.

Never played any of the handheld versions, though, but they seem to be combat-oriented.

We need puzzles!

So much all true things here. SpaXe you wan to play Dawn of Dragon? Better not do so... read here why not to <.=.< . Spyro will always stay for me the quirky little bastard from the PS platform. Call it kids game as much as you want but this guy had been just adorable and fun to goof around with. The new one is just poop.

just so you know quite a few stories follow the same pattern of narrative, the bible and the matrix are very similar as well but hey were is the thread about that?

Which doesn't make them necessarily good. In fact the best stories I know don't follow the simple pattern just like that. That said Matrix is heavily inspired by biblical stuff ( Neo, Morpheus, Zion... :/ ) after all.

Spyro was a classic platformer/adventure game. It didn't 'need' anything more. It was respected for what it was.
Despite what you might say by 'dead', the game is still bought and sold. It might be 'dead' to you, but its not dead for the developer.

I wish I could find the article on popular selling games, but despite what most people think, its not at all what you think. :P

Cell phone games are on the rise. Cheap to buy, easy to make and distribute, they are quite popular as anyone with a cell phone most likely has cell phone games.
Notably, I recall Spyro having 6 titles on cell phones.
If they made one and it failed, they wouldn't have made 5 more.

More notably, I recall a Spyro movie in production and scheduled a release on 2009. It might just a rumor, but a quick Google says "The Legend of Spyro" a 2009 animation film.

So where did you get the word 'dead' from?
