I have been trying quite vigilantly to get the news of the release date of my Mod onto the front page of Moddb but its been at least 2 weeks and I still see nothing and I also got no PM or anything from an administrator about 'what to fix' if anything on the news post itself.

Moddb.com

This is actually the 2nd submission of the same news just in case the first one didn't go through. I have also waited for over 2 weeks for 'things to fix' from an administrator and yet I got nothing.

Come on guys... Either please send me the things to fix on my news post so that it can appear on the front page of Moddb's PC page (As this is a Quake III Mod... Yes its ancient but it was one of the most highly anticipated Quake III Mods ever as per the unique site hits in years past) or just post it up on the front.

I've already PM'ed Intense about this through the forums a few weeks ago but I never got a response...

I appreciate the help.

P.S. Not sure how to change the sig on these boards (It only has the changes on the main Moddb site itself) but the link in my signature is no longer valid. It is now: Gundamuniverse.planetquake.gamespy.com

Check out the profile for release information.

Don't rely on INtense to reply to PMs, he's not a forum regular and V4 doesn't have PMs implemented yet (so visiting the forum is the only way you'll get notified)
You can't change your sig at the moment because the forums aren't moved to V4

As for new authing, news has to be significant and of a certain quality for it to appear on the front page. A hell of alot of news comes through, so its at the discresion of the staff member who picks up the ticket as to whether its worthy front page news or not. I'm not sure if 'I'm releasing soon but theres a non-specific date' comes under the guidelines of that, but article authing isn't my job so I can't really say what other staffers do.

Yeah I mean... as you know, I have been a member since the beginning of 2003 so things worked differently back then... News like this would definitely be posted on the front page and Intense actually replied to PMs about this sort of thing and posted it up for me...

But now? What has happened to Moddb.. I know I've been absent from the site for a long time but I think its been changed negatively since 2003 and earlier, I'm not sure but that's just my opinion.

I believe something like this is definitely news worthy, as fans have been anticipating this EXACT NEWS for 7-8 YEARS so I definitely think that it should be posted on the front page.

I can't really show pictures, as there's nothing new visually to show and that's all in the images section or on older news posts.

Wraiyth, if you could please let the staffer who is in charge of authorizing news on the front page about this, I would really appreciate it. I didn't get even a 'what to fix' notification so its really bad to see the slow level of service and while I understand about the amount of volume of the news, it specifically says that 'a few days' for authing is when the news is authorized but its been well over 2 weeks now. Probably has been 3 weeks at the time of making this forum post of nothing from an administrator.

Have you checked if the news has not been authed meaning the red disclaimer is displayed on it? Otherwise you can be simply jolted. The currently news authorizers tend to auth news in batches which can ( and happened to me already ) make your news post appear on the front page but is immediately jolted off it again since it has been the first in the batch and therefore just out of the top-N news entries.

Hey Sup,

Turns out your mod was authorized and cleared for viewing on your mod profile but it never made the front page. Nothing is wrong with it in terms of formatting or grammar (which is why you were not contacted) but staff did not deem it newsworthy enough for the front page. Why? There's a couple of reasons:

- "state of the mod" posts are generally not accepted (We are not dead!) if they are not accompanied with no notes of progress made. A mod saying that it is hard at work and not dead without anything to show is a non-news event and archived. It still shows up on your mod profile but not on the ModDB front page so any ModWatchers of your mod will still get an update.

- media makes your news much easier to digest and points more eyeballs in your direction. Post some new images/video to your gallery and use the embed code to embed them into your news post. If you are gearing up for release, putting the extra effort into generating a fresh media blitz will help attract more attention and get more people to appreciate your work.

Intense actually replied to PMs about this sort of thing and posted it up for me...

Well, alot can change in 5 years... the site has gotten bigger, Scott is spending alot of time organising sponsors for competitions, coding the actual site, implementing features and bug fixes, which is why the site has other staff members to do this kind of work

As Stenchy said, we have a set of guidelines that we need to follow when Authing news (just like everything). Also, as far as I understand (and have been told) we don't contact users if their post doesn't make the front page.

This is actually the 2nd submission of the same news just in case the first one didn't go through. I have also waited for over 2 weeks for 'things to fix' from an administrator and yet I got nothing.

If the first one was Authed to your profile, then the second one wouldn't get authed at all because the guidelines do state to not submit duplicate content. I'd hardly call this bad service if its in breach of the guidelines. I don't think you can judge how good or bad the site is now on the basis of a single news post not being authed to the front page because it didn't meet the guidelines that INtense himself set, given how much the site has changed and the sheer amount of work to maintain the site and try to keep people happy.

I see... Thanks for the post.

But it is more of a news post stating the estimated release date of the Mod rather than the state of the Mod, although yes there is a huge tidbit of that in there.

As for media, there is really nothing new visually to show but I guess I can re-use some old images.

If I make the same news post but take out the 'state of the mod' tidbit, as well as add some ingame shots already present on the site, will you accept it then?

If you follow the submission rules your news will be authed, make sure it looks nice, in both formatting and layout, getting on the front page is hard so you need to the very best to make your news as good as you can, better the news the more hits you will get from it.
