I think it doesnt make a difference because even if you were on mars it wouldnt really change the way how planets move :)

well yeah youre right but i am asking how things are not how you see them... :D

WTF are you talking about? The Earth stands still and is flat all right, the Moon rotates around the Sun, and obviously, we're the only intelligent life in the universe consisting of billions of planets and stars.

BTW, the Moon is made of cheese if you haven't noticed by now.

Thats it i'm going to moon and i will eat out my own moon base!!! :D

hmm.. yeah, if you look at it using the cartesian coordinate system and put the origin who knows where then you might be right (if i remember it correctly, was learning about it some while back :D) anyways, the origin would be the center of the sun and then the earth rotates around it :)

btw, thanks about that voxelizer, now trying to get it to work with panda 3d :>

Keep it serious? Then why ask the question?

Because my friend said that approx. 50% of people in Latvia said that the sun rotates around the earth (i laughed my a$$ off) so i just wanted to see what other people think :D

Ehr... It's not my theory... It's called science (math, logic, ...).

errh...i know its not your theory and i know there is a thing called science, in which i am very interested :D
just because im 15 doesnt mean i dont know a thing :D

If the observer is on mars then he sees the earth that rotates around sun. If he is on the earth then he sees the sun which rotates around earth. Am I wrong?

Your eyes being tricked into thinking the Sun is rotating around the Earth does not change the reality of what is happening (the Earth is spinning, the sun is not going around it).

This is one DUMB thread

May 2 2011 Anchor

:D maybe this is a dumb thread but that certainly is dumb video , laughed at some places :D but it kinda got me thinking...maybe the world really is FLAT, nah that cant be true :D
anyways, dont want to repeat myself : this thread is 1)for fun 2) just to see the statistics how dumb people are :D

The sun rotates around Earth, obviously.

Also, water flows uphill and if I walk backwards I will travel back in time.

Citing "eyes", "tricked", "reality" is a bit vague... In order to define which is the correct answer it should be defined precisely what is "position", "rotation" and so on. It's clear with 3d analogies. Consider the scenegraph of the universe. If you reparent the (node corresponding to) earth to the sun, then the earth will rotates around the sun (if you observe that in the global space of coordinates). But, if you put yourself in the local space of coordinates of the earth, the earth is in the position (0,0,0) and the sun moves in that local space of coordinates. Yes, the sun moves locally because globally is the earth which is moving, but you're in the local space now. So, if you consider "movement" as "variation of coordinates", and your coordinates are measured using the local space of earth, you obtain that. So, the common sense says to use the global space of coordinates, but, if nobody says which system of coordinates you've to consider, you can pick the one you want. Maybe 50% of people in Latvia prefers local space of coordinates. I tipically use the global one, though.

LOL yes, this thread is dumb.

Doesn't matter which coordinates you want to use, or which 3d space. When it comes to physics there's only one truth and all the wordplay you can muster wont change that result (and assuming the Earth is at 0,0,0, and static just isn't accurate at all. I may be sitting still at the moment, but I'm still moving).

Everyone knows the sun revolves around the king of England.

What? There's no king?!

This is a forum

I didn't say it wasn't a forum. I said all the word play you can muster isn't going to change the truth. Meaning you are free to ramble on all you want about how the sun is rotating around us when seen from Earth, but it doesn't change the fact that it's only an illusion because the Earth is orbiting the sun while spinning. If you fall for such illusions, Mindfreak could use some more audience.

You're assuming the global space, but the OP doesn't assume that, there was a lack of information (this is because I asked "where's the observer?"). And this lack of information creates the ambiguity.

Again, it doesn't matter where the observer is or what space is being used. Lets make the insane assumption that I'm currently situation on Earth, in my living room. Guess what, I am orbiting the sun, rotating around it.

If you're that daft to how our solar system works (regardless of where you are), I could set up a 3d scene for you. You're free to constrain the camera to Earth's mesh and use local space, just don't be upset once you learn how it doesn't override or change the global space, and that the sun still isn't rotating around you.

Also, be careful not to walk too fast. Apparently moving your head will cause the entire planet to quickly rotate around you, and we don't want to hurt anyone.
